I have an issue -the condo complex I live in just replaced the grass out front a few days ago. Then today we got a note on our door that said that we were going ot be billed for it because supposedly our dogs were the ones that kill the grass. This is bulls**t!! THe grass died because a) the sprinklers didn't work during the month of June and b) the runoff is so bad that the grass was actually mildewing. They have no proof that my dogs did it and I should not be billed for it. Any advice on how to fight it? We have been trying to move for over a year!

I have heard that in landlord/tenant situations, the tenant almost always wins. If they bill you, take them to small claims court maybe? I don't think you should have to pay them a cent. Good luck on getting out of there.

Laws vary in every state, and country...so we're not much good advising you I suppose. I don't know if you own or rent, either...by your post. But I would think as a general rule, if you're sure you're not responsible, then just don't pay it and let THEM take you to court...or whatever...and try to prove you DID cause the problem.

You might want to write them a very polite letter to that effect. And I do mean very polite. Or it will "cost you"!

In UK we have a couple of free services for advice with legal matters - we can visit a local Law Centre or go to the Citizens Advice. Do you have anything similar in US, as I would recommend seeking their advice.

    Good luck!

I'm not sure what to do. I was talking to a girl at the pet store who actually had a similar problem and called this guy that works for one of the news stations. He is known for exposing bad businesses and stuff and she actually won! I think I will contact him. It's just such a hassle. We re-listed our house to sell it, so hopefully it will sell soon!
