    Default Really need some help...

Hello. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and had to go into the hospital yesterday because I was "leaking" or having a lot more vaginal discharge than normal (sorry if this post contains TMI). The doctor I talked to on the phone was worried I had a ruptured membrane but they did some tests at the hospital and it's Bacterial Vaginosis...something really common for pregnant women to get but left untreated can cause my uterus to get infected, for me to go into pre-term labor, or for my baby to have low birth weight. They gave me a prescription for Flagyl at the hospital and the doctor at the hospital (who was in and out in under a minute, I never had a chance to ask her any questions) said it might cause me to feel "yucky" and "nauseous" but if I eat something before I take it I'll be ok. I haven't taken it yet because I'm completely convinced it's going to make me violently ill, feeling nauseous constantly for the 7 days I need to take it and vomiting non-stop. I'm terrified. I feel awful because I know I need to take the medication to get rid of the infection but I've had panic attack after panic attack just trying to prepare myself to take the first dose.

I called my OB's office today and asked if there was any other medication I could take that wouldn't cause nausea (I lied and said I've been taking the Flagyl and it's making me feel sick, I wasn't sure if they'd understand the whole emetophobia thing and the anxiety that goes along with it and I didn't want to leave all that info in what's supposed to be a brief message). I haven't gotten a call back yet but I did a little research and all the medications used to treat Bacterial Vaginosis have all the same side effects. I've just been sitting in bed crying because I don't know what to do and I'm so scared for my baby. Does anyone have any advice?

Don't be scared hun! I had to take that med a whole bunch of times. I got BV a lot when I was prego. Just eat something and you will be just fine. The worst thing that can happen is if you have alcohol (and you shouldn't be drinking anyways I had not one single issue with it. You can relax, you will be just fine. I was also strep B positive during labor and had to have 2 doses of antiobiotcs and I was terrified because I couldn't eat and they were strong IV antibiotics. I asked them for an anti emet which that gave me with no problems and I never felt sick. hang in there ok, eat and take the meds, you will be ok hUGS!!

I had to take the Flagyl pills, for BV before also. They are uncoated, and taste disgusting. So it helps you roll the pill around in a little bit of peanut butter. Mades the taste better and helps go down easier. Another thing...The med never made me feel sick (besides a lil diarrhea on day 3), BUT did make me feel other things. Like really spacey, dizzy, and just really out of it. Like another person..kinda like depression. IDK how to explain it. But, definitely eat before taking them and u should be A-OK. Good luck, hun! Oh, another member on here tried the GEL for BV, and said she had no side effects with that

Aww, Rachel...feeling you here! This will be okay. Please do take the Flagyl and get better for you AND for your baby. Eat a little meal before you take it, or I just ate crackers with peanut butter and drank some milk. I never had problems with nausea or vomiting. Like Valen said, there were a few loose stools, and the pill tastes crappy. HOWEVER! This is so short-term, and you've gone 30 weeks already - congratulations! Soon you will see your rewards of taking care of yourself and your body, when that little one looks up at you! Awesome!

When I get a new medication, I cut the pill in half, and eat that. It lowers my anxiety. Nothing ever happens, so I wait a few hours, and take the other half. Also, the n* is usually because people dont eat it with food. As long as you eat it with food, you will be okay. You can drink tea after too if you are scared of the n* or if you are just anxious.
