Default I do not see any chance of CBT working for me. Experiences please?

Just wondering what everyone's experiences are with CBT.

How long have you been going? Have you been honest with your therapist? If you honestly don't feel that you've made any progress let him/her know so that they can reevaluate and maybe get some outside help. Don't give up! The worst thing that you can do it walk away feeling that there's no hope for you. You may need to go find someone else or work with your therapist to find a treatment plan that works for you. You could even suggest going through the Thrive program together. There are options!

Mine isn't working as quickly as I had hoped but between the medication that she suggested and therapist I am feeling MUCH better than I did before.

Keep plugging along until you find what you need!!!!

Hi there, I am currently on a waiting list for my third attempt at CBT. Although my first and second attempt did not cure me, I found that I learnt some new ways if dealing with certain things better so I certainly don't feel like it was a waste of time. For some, CBT works great the first time, for others it takes a bit longer. I have done quite a bit of research into my phobia and looked up some successful forms of treatment and CBT and the Thrive Programme stand out. It's hard not to be sceptical sometimes but the important thing is that you give it a go. It can be hard work to complete some of the things they ask you to do but it's important that you give it your best shot or else you'll never know if it will have helped or not.

Also what the person before me said is true, always be honest with your therapist and say so if you feel you have any doubts and then that way you and your therapist are really striving to find the best type of treatment for you.

    Good luck

I have tried it numerous times but never had success. The reason it wasn't successful though, is down to me resisting. You really do need to be committed and do everything your therapist tells you/shows you and give 100% effort. I am also on a waiting list for another therapist becuase I really believe it works as long as you don't resist.
A major function of sadness is to help people become more aware of what they value and hence conserve it
