Thread: Dorm Fears.

    Unhappy Dorm Fears.

Okay, so I just moved into my dorm for the first time as a freshman on Saturday. It took a lot of thought to talk myself into living on campus, but I decided I could do it. I knew that I would be on full alert mode from like October to February or March, but I definitely didn't plan on dealing with this this early.Yesterday my dorm neighbor texted me telling me her neighbor was V*. She did so for about 2 or 3 hours then she was fine. Then we found out another girl on our floor was sick as well. So I've been on full on panic mode since. I've been trying to tell myself that where they were basically sick at the same time, it's less likely to be a bug, but I'm still scared. One of the upperclassmen told my roommate that it could be their bodies adjusting to caf food, but I feel like you wouldn't V* multiple times if that was the deal. I don't know, but I've been freaking out about this so bad! Do you think it's a bug or do you think I'm in the clear?

I think it's from their change in diet. I know when my parents were no longer in control of my food purchases, i went wild and ate granola bars everyday for two months. LOL! I didn't get sick from it, but if their parents were strict controllers of their diets and did not let them eat a lot of junky food, a radical change in diet could have made them sick. Judging by the short duration of the illnesses, I am guessing it is not sv. It was probably just something they ate.

I remember this happening to many, if not, most of the girls when I first moved in. I believe change in diet has a lot to do with it. Many people don't always make the best choices food-wise when they move into the res halls. A diet of pizza, pop, and cookies, for example, can easily make someone sick. Most of the foods I rembet people getting sick from we're super fatty or cheesy/milky.

I lived on campus first year too and it's a great experience... That being said I was in a similar situation when a bug hit the floor. Get sanitizing wipes and clean common areas in your room (especially if you shared a room like myself). Use bathrooms elsewhere during the day if you can and just avoid sick people. I usually informed people about my condition before avoiding them do they didn't think I hated them :P

Just eat well, take vitamins and stay positive... It's an amazing experience that one little bug shouldn't ruin!

It sounds like what you have is just- like mentioned before -people adjusting to new foods and the stress of homesickness. It's a big change for a lot of people.
