Default Terrified for nil by mouth tomorrow!

    Hello
please can anyone give me some reassurance?

im being admitted to hospital at 8am tomorrow morning for an operation on my heart under local anaesthetic. I am not allowed food 6 hours before and fluids 2 hours before.

i am terrified about the nausea, stomach cramps from hunger (I get them quite severely) and the possibility of v* from not eating. I'd say its about 14-16 hours I will be going with out food and I can't stop panicking about it.

Has anyone been through similar and can tell me their experiences or reassure me? I'm feeling very panicky and I'd like not to be worrying about vomiting so I can focus on the op and recovery.

    please help!!

    thank you x

Oh def don't worry about vomiting from not eating! Also, I'm more than sure that if you ask, they'll def give you an anti-emetic for your surgery - maybe ask for Propofol(SP) as your sedative as well.

I didn't have any invasive surgery, but I was put under when I had my Endoscopy. I couldn't eat for 12 hours for some reason but I handled it well. They gave me Ondansetron for nausea and Propofol is heard to have antiemetic causes. I hope everything goes well with your surgery tomorrow! You'll be in my thoughts.

Good luck with your surgery. Just ask the doctor to give you something if you are feeling unwell. They are there to help you feel better.

Try to eat or drink up until the last minute...I get very weak when I cannot eat for extended periods of time. Then just try to rest before you go so not to use up energy. And definitely ask for an antiemetic like everyone said. Good luck!!
