    Question New Member Treatment Question

    Hi everyone!

I am brand new to site after recently putting a name to my obsessive fear of getting sick. I've been dealing with this phobia for around three years now and just recently sought help from a therapist. I've been working with my therapist for about 9-10 weeks with weekly visits. She's been using neurofeedback to help calm down my anxiety but I haven't noticed any results, in fact, I'm still in the same place that I was when I started therapy. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with curing or at least helping their emetophobia with a therapist and what techniques did they use? Also, has anyone used medication to help with their emetophobia and did it actually work? I feel I'm at a loss in regards to treatment of this awful fear and I just want to feel better!

    Thank you :)

Default Re: New Member Treatment Question

Hi Ashley! Yes, medication helps a lot, I believe. I started with anti-depressants when I was eight, after that I was a different person. I don't think they are working that well anymore, but that's because what I feel is not "curable" by those meds. Try them!

I've been to five different therapists, going to meet my sixth tomorrow. The 5th one was the best. She was a CBT therapist and helped me when I needed the most. She was always there, when I needed twice appts a week, anything. I still have her email (I stopped seing her because I moved away) and we talk sometimes about subjects that interest us both.

In 10 weeks, improvement should have been seen. Well, some people don't do well with some therapists. I was with my 4th one for around 12 weeks, I realized that going there was only making me worse, then I found the perfect one. Advice? Tell your therapist how you feel, ask for a different technique. If it still doesn't work, try another therapist.

My emet went from daily to rare ocasions. Only when I get really nervous about something, and still I manage to control it without meds or panic because hell, I'm so used to it by now!

Techniques? Mine gave me alternatives other than freaking out. Go out, take a deep breath, distract yourself, if you really feel sick, don't worry, just let it happen, talk to me, get distracted (again, yes)... Anything but to focus on the fear.

Trust me, you will feel better. You want it, and by wanting something you are already one step closer. Some people just don't want to be helped

Let us know of your improvement! If you want to talk to a 15 years old girl, you can add me on facebook (I could use some friends). Good luck!
Tick tock, time is passing and so is your life. Enjoy it while you can.
