After reading some of the success stories on this site, I've decided that trying CBT and working with a professional counselor/therapist might be the only way I'll be able to free myself of this horrible phobia. The only thing that's holding me back is that no one in my area is familiar with, or has ever treated, emetophobia. To all of you who have gone through, or are currently going through, treatment, how did you find the right counselor? I tried one in the past, and we completely clashed. She was pretty experienced as a counselor but had no idea what emetophobia was and tried to tell me that planes do not give you b*** bags and that I just made that up. Needless to say, I never went back. Recently, I found a girl who is younger and just starting out her career. She has never treated emetophobia, but seems to understand that I have a problem I need to overcome and is willing to try and help me. Before I commit to therapy, I want to set up a consultation to see if she will be able to help me. Do you have advice on what I should expect from a consultation? How should I prepare? Are there specific things I should look for or questions I should ask?
Thank you!!
