    Default "Weird"

Don't you hate it when someone looks at you and asks, "why don't you eat with your fingers? That's weird!"? I get told "that's weird" so many times. In fact, I wish I had a nickel for every time someone has called me weird, or said one of my ritualistic behaviors associated with my emet is weird. I want to shout back, "yeah, well, I think it's weird you take deuce in public restrooms, don't wash your hands afterward, and then dig around in a bag of chips!"

I eat with my fingers at home, and at restaurants but only after I've washed my hands thoroughly in restroom and made sure not to touch anything else till I got back to my table (using sleeve to open doors, etc). Hard to eat free chips at a Mexican restaurant with a fork! That said, if anyone called me weird based on my Emet, I'd tell them to piss off.

If I have to eat something with my fingers I don't eat the part I touched. My mom was telling me I was weird because I refused to touch anything after coming out of the restroom at a restaurant, I used my foot to pull out my chair.

LMAO all of you made me laugh. i eat everything with my fingers but only after washing my hands, and i barely eat in restaurants. what annoys my family the most, or anyone i eat with is my constant telling them to wash their hands and acting like they have a disease if the put their fingers in their mouth. it just grosses me out so bad. lol. my sister once pushed the door open at a starbucks in the city and then licked her hand. i almost dropped dead on the floor and she was laughing. ppl around me think its funny.

You want weird? I DONT have an obsessive hand washing thing, I dont fear germs, I eat out, I dont fear fp, I dont do the things I see a lot of emets do. I dont know why... but if someone in my house has a sv, then my hand washing starts, the obsessiveness starts. After a week im good, til the next time. To me, that makes no sense, I would think id be like that constantly, and can totally understand why people are!

honestly, i dont think I'm obsessive about hand washing all the time, just when the season is here. i will even eat things thats i dropped on the floor lol. but in the winter months I'm an animal esp if someone is sick. if i am home i dont wash my hands as much its when i go out to eat or on a subway which i avoid like death. i even eat m&ms in class with ought washing my hands and then i kinda feel proud of myself.. until someones sick.. then I'm a mental case.

I think everyone has varying degrees of ritualistic behavior. Maybe your brain is really good about the whole out of sight, out of mind thing. Like if you can't see it, you're not anxious about it, but once someone is sick and it's in your "space", then you go into full-blown emet mode.
