Default introducing myself... and some ideas...

Hi, I'm Chelle from Australia and I'm Deaf. It was a blessing to find this! A friend who shares the same fear as I do, gave me this forum to join. I have had my fear of v* since I was 3 years old and I dont know why, but I think it may have come from having colic as a baby and operations on my cleft palate also as a baby and then one day throwing up in a shopping centre when I was 2, and I remember feeling sick with n* in child care and crying bad as I couldn't cope with it at all but did not v* thank goodness. I have since discovered aloe vera gel juice is very good for lining your stomachs to prevent against getting viral gastro, as the gel lining your stomach stops the virus from holding onto your intestines and the virus just slides through and out so you don't get sick. Also have apple cider vinegar drink every day to increase the acid alkaline level of your stomach which guards against the viruses, the viruses hate the alkaline levels and cant survive. Also drink cranberry juice as well, as this also acts as a lining on your intestine too. I have a glass of both cranberry juice and aloe vera juice every day to protect myself and also raspberry cordial (make sure its the good quality brand, not some cheap home brand, that has high raspberry juice % in it) kills gastro in the tum. Hope all this helps. I'm really glad to have found this forum, as for so long I thought I was alone, many dont understand my phobia.

Hey Chelle, welcome! MY husband too, is deaf. This forum can be very helpful, and informative. Hope you find some answers.
If you try and tell me a phobia is unreal. I dare you to live a day, and feel what I have to feel.

Hello and welcome. I took several sign language classes in college and have some deaf friends as well. However, I don't use it enough and end up forgetting the signs...but I love it!

Anyway, you gave some wonderful advice already and I hope you will find help in this community. We've all been there with this fear!!

Hey mhartse and andee, it's wonderful to meet you both on here and that you both have some interaction with the deaf . Yes its always soo scary when gastro is going around. I hate it more than anything, the viruses are bad as they're harder to kill in the gut even though a big dose of bacterial ones are dangerous too. I tend to gulp down a big glass of slightly diluted raspberry cordial after I have eaten out somewhere or I feel the food may not have been safe, and with viruses, I take these juices before I go anywhere just incase I have to eat out somewhere. There is something I did learn and want to pass onto you an experience I had for 5 years which was awful! I would regularly wake up ill once a week and it took me years to work out why (and god I dont understand how I missed it!) - toothbrush head up, in a cup on the sink/shelf a metre away from the loo! When you flush the loo, be really careful, close the lid before you flush as the toilet's flush spray travels a long way and there is all sorts of bugs in the loo no matter how much you clean it, there is some bugs in it, and spray of flushing water lands on the toothbrush, and I was sick the next day or a couple days later and when I felt sick like I was going to throw up, I got panic attacks, took myself outside with a glass of raspberry cordial and another glass of cranberry juice in the other hand and drank both and felt better half hour later! Not kidding, I know it was the toilet, so now I hate toilets and always close the lid before I flush, and I feel annoyed or mad at people who don't do the same! (and of course I now keep my toothbrush in a case) As people don't think about the flushing water spraying onto the floor then we walk over that gross invisible particles of germs then sit on our feet later. I try not to touch my feet at all when I sit down and if I do, I wash my hands! I never ever put my hands in my mouth ever and I duck from anyone who is silly enough to attempt to touch my face - yuck! Those are the experiences I have had and learnt from. I'm really glad I'm able to share with you all

Welcome! I'd heard of the cranberry juice thing but no about aloe juice, I've been told to try it for my digestive issues and now I have even more reason too

Hey mdgirl thanks, yes so much in life to be happy about, I try not to let my emetophobia get in the way. The thing that has made it a lot easier for me with it, is the juices I drink protect me so they give me a peace of mind all that beyond, I always wash my hands before eating and after the loo of course lol. I'm a visual artist, a painter and illustrator. My art makes me so happy and my partner who supports my arts and understands my fear, and everything good in life throws above the negatives. Ive been lucky lately, lost my job right in time when my art is finally taking off really well. Got a website for my arts but will post the link if you want to see it as I'm a bit wary about posting links on here knowing what it may look like lol. Hey Nic its great to meet you too, and absolutely, aloe vera is the best, it really really does help the digestive probs, I have these too, being born with waardenburgs syndrome which also means I got hirschsprungs syndrome too very very mildly though thank god, but it makes digestive really difficult to work properly. Also go for paleo diet, some food places I can trust with but even so of course I will have the juice before these to protect myself . Paleo diet, google this it's wonderful the food is so yum!! I think you can make your own too. Anyway aloe vera also really helps cleansing the body, best stuff ever. Oh also take aloe vera capsules as well as the gel juice (usually can buy this in supermarkets, and the aloe vera liquid stuff which only needs two dessert spoonfuls of and lasts a long time kept in fridge if you take it daily, but the juice in supermarket is the protector of your tum lining) Cranberry juice is a great back up but also a good juice for pre-menopause, if you start drinking it many years before menopause, I think it also reduces the symptoms of menopause and a few other things with the reproductive cycle which I know causes a lot of probs for us women. I love this group! I am glad I joined, many of us who understand each other on here and the warmth is felt here xox

I still feel all comforted and warm inside when I think of my IES family. You sound like you have some great supports outside the forum too. Looking forward to getting to know you!.

Hey mamafear, its lovely to meet you too yes this is a great family, feels like I'm already a part of it . I have been lucky with support, but will always stand my ground when someone does not understand. I say to them, this is my fear, I will never get over it and that it is my right to have it, they cant change us . And psychologists who say go expose yourselves, I think its sooo wrong because that can actually be dangerous if you expose yourselves to bugs. Gastro has the potential to damage tummies permanently, as has been my case 15 years ago (where I did not throw up through willpower, only had the runs and that took 5 days to get over). I think this group is far much better than a pscyhologist or counsellor xo

Hi MrsEmetophob, you can buy the aloe vera gel juice in supermarkets anywhere, but look really hard in different areas of the supermarket and if hard to find, ask the staff as I had this problem at the start, they make it hard to find the aloe vera juice! Its usually in a clear green plastic bottle, big and small sizes and when you shake the bottle a bit you can see the gel bits that float around, thats part of the gel that protects your stomach. And it tastes good too, some dont like it but most do and its worth having

Oh, continuing from my prev post above, I must mention, there is another type of aloe vera juice that is fully liquid and doesnt have a nice taste, and can only be taken in 2 teaspoon doses a day, this one does not protect the tum lining, only cleans your body and kills some germs not sure if it d kill the norovirus though, and can be bought at a health shop, that one is probably a good back up to have for immunity and cleaning your body inside, but the gel juice is the best one
