Can you catch a sv washing dishes of someone that has had a sv? Just curious. Hot plain water with a bottle scrubber then into the dishwasher with the santizer setting...and wash your hands after loading. I always wash dishes without soap before into the dishwasher with soap. And was wondering if you coulf catch while doing thst. Not sure if I am gettibg my words the way I want them exactly.

No. First of all, no, you can't catch a sv* that way. Nobody v*ed or pooped on the plates I am sure and no matter what if you wash your hands you are TOTALLY, 100% SAFE! I have LITERALLY cleaned up actual v* and poo of my boys when they are sick with a tummy bug and haven't caught it, so really, truly, dishes are nothing to even think about.

Second, YOU NEED A DISTRACTION!!!! Seriously! Stop thinking about a MINOR illness that is a BLIP on the map of life. You are giving this thing WAAAAAAAAY too much of your time and energy.

Read a book, do a craft, call a friend, but STOP giving a silly sickness so many of your thoughts.

Of course, when you are anxious we're here for you, I just really want you to start enjoying your life, girl!

*Hugs* Michelle. I can see that you are struggling right now. You're the one with the daughter who had a SV recently, right? I am right there with you. If you ever need to chat, I am here. My anxiety with it is through the roof, much like yours. As far as dishes go though, no, you're totally fine.

Syrup this was just out of curiosity. I didn't think you could but I wondered if the person had v and you were washing their things like utensils that also had been in there mouth if it could then have anything on it. I am actually doing a lot better than I had been. I come on here not just for my own support but to give it and advice because that in turn helps me also.
Thank Kimin. I did have a daughter with sv recently. Sometimes questions pop up in my mind and I just need to ask. This was one. And I figured this site was the best place for the answer to make sure. I have had some success. Started going out of the house a little again. Also have admitted to my phobia and what it neans to everyone I know in the world. Learned of someone that actually has a minior phobia with it and how she deals. I haave always had a problem with anxiety. Was diagnosed professionally as having an anxiety disorder at the age of 19..about 20 years ago. But I have actually dealt with that since 3. This phobia has been on and off bad since I was 16. I have my ups and downs with it. Anyway..if you ever want to chat too look me up. And feel free to add me as a friend. I am always looking to make friends.

Chiming in with my own two cents here: I think the dishwasher probably does a great job of washing everything down the drain and then heating up the dishes in the drying cycle, which would also kills things. But I don't think it's unreasonable to worry about SV possibly being on a plate. I think any object that people touch with their hands is a potential transmitter of SV, however unlikely it may seem. Just being realistic.

Syrup is NOT a troll at all. She is one of the most knowledgeable and kind posters we have on here and I will go to the mat for her anytime for her. She is awesome sauce and a ice cream sundae with a cherry on top. She is also super duper rational and great at breaking down questions/concerns in a practical, easy to understand way. Nope, not a troll!

    DO NOT LEAVE US SYRUP!!!

WTF?? Syrup was tryin' to help with some rational words. That sort of aggressive response is the birthplace of The Crazy IES Fights. Guess it was getting a little to boring for you huh?

sometimes saying something silly to show us how irrational we are is needed. Syrup is not a troll@
If you try and tell me a phobia is unreal. I dare you to live a day, and feel what I have to feel.

Syrup please don't leave! You only just came back and I've missed you!

Naive- I think you're misunderstanding what Syrup is saying. She's saying to distract yourself. I can vouch that distraction is a wonderful way to ease anxiety. Even my therapist says that having a hobby is very good for anxiety. Please reread what Syrup said. There was no cattiness or anything in it. Also, Syrup has a wonderful sense of humor and is very good in finding humor with this awful phobia (eg: "nobody v*ed or pooed on the plates" haha) She really is a wonderful person on these boards

Michelle - don't worry. People post questions, they get answers. Sometimes members misunderstand tone and flip out a bit. It happens a lot, actually. Nothing you did wrong and hopefully Syrup will stay.

    Syrup, please stay!

For anyone to insinuate Syrup is a troll for saying that is baffling to me. Not one thing wrong with what she said. In any case... you're just fine, Michelle Can't catch anything that way, especially if you washed your hands afterward! Sorry your post got a little drama'd up

    Hey guys,

Before I take a much needed break I had to address this. Thank you sweet friends for being so kind and defending me, it really is sweet. I don't fully understand what provoked this but I really do appreciate your support.

First of all, Michelle, I was honestly trying to help you, and really didn't mean any harm. I'm sorry if what I said was offensive, but honestly, I really think that everyone here needs to start focusing on recovery instead of feeding the phobia. I am a HUGE fan of the 'Thrive' method. It teaches that believing that we can't think a certain way or react a certain way because of our phobia is wrong. Rob Kelly has been a therapist for a long time. He's done extensive research on the subject of emetophobia as well as various addictions. He explains in his book about cigarette smokers that he's worked with. Those that believed they had an addiction were often unsuccessful or relapsed after receiving treatment whereas those that refused to believe that they were addicted and that they had control, instead believing that they were participating in a stupid practice and had a choice to say 'no' if they wanted to were the ones who showed long term results. Same with emetophobia, those that believed that they had a phobia that called the shots, were, understandably, the ones who stayed fearful long term (as, sadly, we see with many people here with the same belief system)

Telling people you SHOULD feel the way we do and there's nothing we can do about it because it's a PHOBIA is not only wrong, it's damaging. Study after study has not only proved this to be false, they've also showed that the BEST WAY to overcome is to grab the bull by the horns and show it's who's boss. DON'T give this more of your thoughts, FACE YOUR FEARS, LIVE YOUR LIFE!!!!! I'm sorry that my opinion seems to upset people on this board. I really thought that this was a place were we could all throw our opinions in without fear of being attacked, I was wrong.

Secondly, I want to address your post, NaiveandTrue. I really encourage you to be careful in how you talk to people. It's not helpful and is toxic. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to STFU. I'm sad for you. You obviously have some issues that I really encourage you to deal with. You need to start loving others, even if you don't agree with them. You really have no right to treat another human being this way; think about it.

Thanks again everyone! I've appreciated so many of you and may be back at some point. I am sorry that I was angry yesterday and couldn't address this better at the time. I believe in being a healing community but with so many angry aggressive people on this board, at least for now, I can't be a part.

LIVE, friends! LIVE!!!!! Enjoy each other, your families and the short life that we're given. xoxo
