Default Eeek- "the season" has started!

So I don't think this is an "exposure" story, but more of a kick in the pants to ramp up my "winter hygiene" routine.

I was at my desk at work when one of my co-workers came up to my desk. She didn't touch anything, but we chatted for a few minutes. Then she left, saying she had to take her 4-year-old daughter to the doctor because she'd been v*ing since Friday! Yikes! I immediately rubbed my desk down with Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide wipes. She said she and her husband hadn't gotten sick (and it sounds like it had been 72 hours since she started getting sick), which makes me think it was rota or something not contagious.

Ughhhh I hate this time of year. I'm sure it's just the beginning! Has anyone else started to hear these kinds of stories?

One last addition- even though she and I had not actual contact other than being in close proximity (I even got here before she did, so we didn't even touch the same door or anything like that) I am still freaking out. Even though she's not sick! I need some reassurance

I can't say I wouldn't be a bit worried, but there is really no reason for that. If her and her husband didn't get it, you won't get it for sure.
I rarely hear the stories about someone being sick, and that's pretty weird because I am still in school (going to university this year). Hope it stays that way haha

Around here like the week everyone started school, LOTS and LOTS of kids got sick. It was like all at once too, so a first round has already hit around here. But I agree, markings on a calendar telling summer is over and fall has begun just gets at ya.
If you try and tell me a phobia is unreal. I dare you to live a day, and feel what I have to feel.

You'll be fine! It doesn't sound like she touched you, or any of your stuff. Even if she did, you know to sanitize, and wash your hands. Considering all that, there's no chance you'll catch anything from her. Try to relax.

I really don't think it is worse in the winter I just think it depends on where you are and if you're lucky enough not to come across it too much. I've only ever caught anything in the summer, there were nori virus stories in the papers here in July and at my work bugs go around all year long. I always reckon if you keep up normal hand hygiene, don't have heating on too high and avoid you're immune system getting run down (extra vitamins to help with colds etc) you can make it through the winter no problem!

Here in the US people usually just refer to it as "the flu" or "the 24-hour flu." Which makes me angry because it's inaccurate and they don't realize they are spreading it (and they think flu shots prevent it). For most of my childhood, I assumed that all flu viruses meant v*. Winters were pretty scary!

Yes, it has definitely started early this year, which I sort of prefer – I’d rather be relaxed during the holidays! I’m right on time with my annual autumn cold though – blech. But, my co-worker mentioned that her infant niece (she lives with her) is “sick” and only explained that she has extremely gross diapers. Other than that, though, I actually haven’t heard of anyone I know getting a stomach bug, but I never hear about it that much anyway. The only time I hear of people getting it is when my aunt’s family gets it – they do every year. I don’t visit Facebook much nor do I have children, so I’m sure those things have a lot to do with it.

Kitbuddy, when I was an emetophobic child, to get me to calm down before flu shots every winter, my mom would promise me it would protect me from stomach flus, too. Certainly worked to calm me down before the injection! And also proved that my mother must have at least occasionally enjoyed my phobia.

I you are feeling brave google norovirus September 2014 and you will see that noro has hit Britain early this year, it was raging during the summer, lots of hospital wards are closed in Scotland and the north of England at the moment, I'm hoping it's hitting now and getting it out the way so christmas can be bug free.

I can't even enjoy Christmas because of the fear of norovirus. The whole scene just makes me think of dozens of family (my in-laws side) sitting around and touching the dinner rolls, touching their dirty cell phones and then preparing food, etc. It's just so stressful.

It sure as heck hasn't hit Texas yet! Thank the good Lord for 98 degree weather! Seriously, though, it may not have hit yet, but rest assured, it’s coming! I’m hoping it won’t hit until early December – it usually pops up around late November. L Praying that it moves through quickly and doesn’t hit my home! Don’t you just hate something like that ruining the holidays?!

I feel for all of y’all who live in the cold states…I’m telling you – when it comes to emet, the best place to live is Texas. I only hear of about three people getting sick where I live. (Of course, hearing about those three people are enough to send me into a full-fledged panic attack, but…) J
