Question OT: How to earn saving money for a trip?

    Hey all!

So, I'm going on my first international trip at the end of March and while I work full time, I only have six more months to save money. Most of my savings from my work income is going to come during the holidays since I'm management, I'm basically going to be camping at my job and making mucho overtime pay. However, I got 1 month until hours increase like that and then I got 2 and a half months post holiday season. I did a yard sale already and that helped a lot.

Does anyone know what else I can do? I've considered selling things online. I have a lot of stuff still. But I don't know how to go about selling things. I also wanted to make things to sell, but then the whole "living at my job and wont have time to make anything" reality kicked in. Which also makes it hard to pick up a second job because I have to be 110% for my current job.

I have a goal of saving up 2,000 in cash. I have a credit card that will have a $750 limit, that I will use only for emergencies.

I should also mention that I'll be gone for an entire month.

    Thank you

Craigslist is always a good place to sell stuff because it's free to place an ad. We've sold tons of stuff like furniture, sports equipment, televisions/electronics, etc. The only thing I don't like is having strangers come to my house to take things so I always make sure my husband is there when people show up.
I also have a funny hobby in that I collect change. Whenever I get change from a purchase I throw it all in a little piggy bank and once that gets full I empty it into one of those 5 gallon water jugs. After emptying the little piggy bank a couple times, I will sit for a couple hours and roll the change. I usually come away with anywhere between $300-$500...it never fails to amaze me how quickly that silly change adds up!
Plus it's always a lot easier to save money when ou have a cool goal. It doesn't get much cooler than a month-long international trip...I'm so jealous!

If you want to sell things on Craig's list or something similar I suggest meeting in a public place so strangers don't know where you live. There's aps like depop to sell your stuff on but I think they take a small percentage

Keep in mind, you're not going to have to pay for your accommodation, maybe some meals at some point, if we go out, that kind of thing. I've also got some stuff that I'm going to sell to contribute to your spending money, I think Could you sell some of your photography? You're super talented, and you take the most stunning landscapes and stuff, so is that an option?

I completely dumbed out on selling my work. Holy crap. Now there's something!

Jmoore Craigslist scares me. I recently had my car stolen from me using craigslist. Luckily once cops were involved the person got scared and came back and paid for the car (long story) but then the person resold my car pretending to be me for 3x's what I sold it for and it had a LOT of issues. That was an interesting text from the poor person who got screwed over thinking I did it...and I'm just freaked out someone pretended to be me.

Maybe Etsy for the work? It's such a relief not paying for accomadation! Hotel Erin is so kind

    Hey Kaydee and Jade,

I hope it's okay to ask but did you two meet on IES? I've always wondered. If you did, it's good that something good came out of your phobias (I know you're both recovered )

I sell Younique makeup, and i like their commission structure. I get a debit card and my commission goes onto it within 3 hours of a sale. I can use it like a regular debit card, or go online and transfer the money into my own bank account.
I also sell Avon - I wouldn't recommend that. I swear, it's COSTING me money. Ugh.

I make and sell jewelry online, and I work some promotions jobs here and there. You can try Craigslist in the "gigs" section for pretty easy jobs. They're usually 1-2 hours and will pay $30-$50 depending on the gig. Usually it's beer girl stuff, but you can get supermarket demo jobs and such, too.

We sure did. We joined really close together, then one day (I can't remember why...) we started PM-ing.

Bumping this up to update everyone that I DID make a site. I only uploaded a few photos. I wanted to share

    www.etsy.com/people/chellereneephotos

Please let me know if that link is okay. That seems to be the one that works for me when I type it into my browser. It'll take you to my profile and then there should be a button to see my shop.

How about advertising yourself as a family portrait photographer, people love having their kids pics professionally taken, only issue would be using a venue, there is a woman in my area who hires the village hall on a saturday and is busy all day.

I have done some portraiture jobs! In fact I am honored to be doing my brothers engagement photos this weekend! Me being too nice wasn't going to accept payment as they help me out tremendously in the house (I live with my brother, his fiance, and my dad) but they're great and throwing me a good chunk of change because they know it's going towards this trip. My only issue with pursuing more sessions is time because I'm a manager and the Christmas season is coming so I'm basically going to be living at my job, space - I have none. I only shoot outdoors WHICH leads to the season, I'm in the USA and we're in fall going into winter, not a lot of people (including myself) enjoy the cold :P

I am also bumping up this thread to see if anyone has any trip planning advice. I have about 5 and a half months to go, but I feel like I should still be doing something. I got my passport, and visa all set. I'm having trouble with finding outlet converters. I know they're online for like 10 dollars a piece. However some places I'm reading you can't plug just anything into it, and I'm not ready to blow up my host's house. lol.

I'm debating buying new luggage or borrowing family members.

How badly does it show that I've never done this before? haha

    any advice is appreciated!

Save money by not buying luggage, luggage is expensive! Ask friends or around at work if anybody has any converters, chances are a few people will have one in their kitchen junk drawer (we have) you have 5 months to go, you have loads of time to get organised. If you need new clothes wait until the sales to pick up what you need. Sort out any prescription medicine that you will need to take with you. When we go away I start a holiday drawer about 6 months in advance, cost effective and whenever I open the drawer I get excited about my trip!

I wanna go the borrow luggage route. I only initally need to pack two weeks worth of clothes. I don't need a different outfit everyday lol. I wear basically the same stuff anyways. I'm boring like that. Maybe a few dressy things for going out and such. I will be in Australia, after all!

I should start buying travel things. My work has a whole travel section plus I get 20% off. Great advice

    Jade,

Do you anybody who works for an airline? My step-mom is a flight attendant and I can use her buddy passes for about $50 a flight.

I don't know anyone. Flights paid for anyways, if that's what you mean.

About your converters...read this http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g2...ppliances.html Australia uses a different voltage than the US, in line with NZ and the Eurozone, so it sounds like unless your appliances of interest run on either, you'll need a voltage converter too. I think I see the concern you have though. Is it the stuff like hair straightener/curling iron/ etc that some adapters say you can't use? This would apply to anything with a heating element, it sounds like, but everything else should be ok. There is probably a way to use that kind of stuff there too with the right adapter
