BEING on that cruise ship :-P I agree though, i think I would jump ship if I was on there.
If you try and tell me a phobia is unreal. I dare you to live a day, and feel what I have to feel.

I think most people would say being emet is worse.

Many of those people who get noro will vomit once and be done with it. People who go on cruises tend to be OK with vomiting. Many people vomit aboard ships from seasickness; many people who go on cruises are attracted by the heavy drinking (sometimes alcohol is included in their fare) and probably at least sometimes drink to the point of puking; and these cruise ship outbreaks of noro have been in the news for decades. So I think for the typical cruisegoer, vomiting is about as memorable as a sunburn is for us.

Though I understand what you meant, many, MANY things are worse than catching norovirus on a cruise ship, lol.

For what it’s worth, my boyfriend has been on four cruises in his life and has never even seen someone get sick on one besides his seasick grandmother. I’d be a liar if I said I don’t have a pretty big red flag go up when my boyfriend mentions wanting to take me on one, but by god if I’m going to let emetophobia dictate any more of my life!

Cruise liners are very, very paranoid about noroviruses and are insanely careful when someone get sick. Royal Caribbean, for example, calls every single employee out (no matter what their job is) to sanitize everything with bleach and quarantines the sick person to their room for 48 hours.

Outbreaks will inevitably happen every now and then on a ship full of 2,500+ people packed into a place where you’re often sharing food and touching shared surfaces (just like schools and nursing homes), but if you think about how many cruises sail each year, it is pretty uncommon. It’s even more enlightening when you realize that only 150 people out of 2,500+ passengers were will only sounds scary – that’s only six percent, the same percentage of Americans that will catch a norovirus in a given year according to the CDC. Those are some good odds, I think.

The media is once again contributing to the fear factor. I have never been interested in a cruise since I dislike boats but this is another reason not to ever go on one. The thing that's disturbing is that these people will now carry it onto land and well, you know the rest from there.

I can't even look at a boat, let alone GO on one. Nope.

That being said, many people in my family have taken cruises and been totally fine. Would I do it? Nope. Never. V on a boat is pretty much awful.

I would totally go on a cruise without my kids! HA! I'd freak about going on with them, but I'd be game to go with just the hubby. But, then again, I'm not freaked about v*ing myself. I think the fun would totally outweigh the risk, but I also understand that there isn't any fun involved when you're anxious.

I'd never go on a cruise but I get mention sick so it wouldn't be fun for me. One of my bf clients parents went on a cruise, they must have caught noro on the boat, made Christmas dinner and everyone except my bfs client got sick

I'd never set foot on a cruise. Just not my idea of a fun vacation. Trapped with all those people, the shared surfaces, the buffets, etc. Maybe if I could have the entire boat to myself, I'd reconsider, ha.

haha I couldn't agree more. It would just be anxious the whole time and that's not what vacation is for. A private cruise does sound much more relaxing.
