Stomach virus is a misnomer. It is a stomach VIRUS. the flu is a full body infection, usually respiratory and head. Stomach virus is totally different, but people call it the stomach flu. It is confusing. It sounds like he has norovirus, stomach virus. Not a flu. But it can definitely cause fever, full body pain, exhaustion, etc. It isn't respiratory though. You can get both at the same time but I think it is pretty unlikely. Now, he could also have the regular flu but a weak gag reflex and terrible congestion that is MAKING him v. Did I lose you there? Lots of things fall into both columns (noro/sv and the "flu"). The main thing is which is the most predominant symptom. If v is the worst and other stuff is minor, then it's probably noro/sv. If he has a major cold and fever but happens to be v, then it's prob the "flu".

Whether or not he's contagious depends on whether or not he's still showing symptoms if it's noro. However, the actual flu can be spread via airborne transmission, while noro can't. So it's actually EASIER to keep from catching noro! Just wash your hands before eating and touching your face. You'll be fine.
