I'm in literally the same boat as you! I'm 5'8 and 100lbs, and I can't seem to figure out how to gain for most people, nutritional drinks would be a good start to add (I can't have them, I'm allergic to an additive) or making smoothies once or twice a day with yogurt and high caloie stuff! What I was told by my doctor is to try and stop snacking throughout the day (this is what people do to speed up metabolism) and try and have 3 main larger meals instead.

I think you're so brave for putting yourself through that, let me just say. I wish I could do the same because I might've given myself food poisoning tonight and I could've stopped it. Did you go to the doctor to find out why you were feeling that way? I used to be the same, I think we all were maybe at a point. I got so bad that I was living on crackers, pills and a few meals here and there. The more you stress/avoid food, the worse it gets. I lost a LOT of weight and its been fluctuating ever since. The thing that helped me though was anxiety medication- I was forced to take it against my will but it did save me. I stopped taking it though, right away because it changed me. But I was eating 3 meals a day again. All my safe food, and started adding snacks. If you're there already then think about adding meal replacements- not to replace meals but to add on, like ensure its my fav. Im still trying to find my way back and its been 3 years so this thread could also probably help me. The biggest motivation though is your hair- if you stop nourishing your body and you go down.. it will start falling out. Mines 1/4th the thickness it used to be and its really depressing that I may not even be able to get it back.

I feel like you'll eventually come out of it. The biggest things that cause these downward spirals for me are sad/hard times in other areas of my life, as you said you have been experiencing. When you're stressed things like emet and the associated anxiety and n* often get a lot worse. The best thing is to remember that it's temporary and you will come out of it. Secondly, just till your past the crisis, you should eat whatever sounds good and don't give overly much thought to how healthy it is unless you have specific medical issues that require you to worry about that extensively. Lastly, you can seek help for your emet, and I do know some good, trusted board members here have educated themselves about healthy eating. Perhaps some of them could give you some advice. It doesn't sound like you're so thin that you're in danger of being hospitalized or anything like that...just make sure you don't give in to the temptation to just quit eating altogether for emet reasons. It doesn't usually work out so well in the long run. I understand why you might have to do that at certain times. I'm guilty of that myself. Good luck to you!

Could you just work with safe foods? maybe eat chocolate and crisps/chips to put on weight and don't worry about forcing yourself to eat unusual or "risky" foods

For many years I was thin due to my fear of eating and getting sick. At one time I subsisted on watered down broth and crackers and had family and friends very worried for my health. Once I got on medication and learned how to live more with my emet, I have the opposite problem. I swear it's like I tried to make up for years of not eating much and I am now severely overweight! I've tried to look into why this has happened and how I have been on both sides of the weight/eating spectrum. It's really blown my mind. I'm not saying though that medication is the cure-all, but it did help me live a more 'normal' life. Anyway, there are a lot of healthy, nourishing, safe foods out there. Take care of yourself!

Same here...I'm 5 ft 1 and 95 pounds. I can never gain weight!!! It's been my whole life, and I am sooo tired of the comments from people. I just recently got over a bad cold and that set me back and I lost like 4 lbs. So now I am playing catch up again. I started with the Ensure plus drink again...I've used this many times in the past. It's incredibly hard to gain weight but people don't understand that and think we are soooo lucky. Sigh...I would just stick with your "safe" foods and do the best you can. And try the supplements if you'd like...good luck!
