    Default Everything tastes bad!

Hello! I'm new here even though I've been lurking for a while.

I've noticed that I'm extremely paranoid of getting food poisoning to the point that if food doesn't look or taste exactly the way I remember, I convince myself that it's gone bad and I shouldn't eat it. Today, I got a hamburger and fries from a fast food place I've been to a million times before but, my burger tasted like it wasn't super fresh and my fries were a little bit stale-ish. I ate a couple of bites anyway because this isn't the first time this has happened and I was fine but, I'm still really worried it wasn't prepared right or something.

Does anyone else do this? It's like I convince myself that things taste bad when they're fine.

This happens to me all the time, I'll pour myself a drink - some orange juice for example - and have a few mouthfuls but then notice that it tastes more acidic than usual and then that will be it, the worry will set in (even though I know logically it is fine), because it doesn't taste quite right and I tip it away. It also happens if I think a tiny hair, or dust or something has dropped in, I'll worry that it's sank and have to pour the whole thing away.

I get it less often with food, much less than I used to, but it does still happen. If it tastes 'different', not necessarily 'off' but just 'not right', for example perhaps they changed the recipe or something, or it's a bit chewier than usual (in which case I'll think it's been undercooked) etc.

this is my life 24/7. I waste so much food because I'm a hypersensitive taster. The bag of chips is more season than usual or bread taste little bit more wheaty than the previous rolls I throw them away. I currently have four loaves of bread and two boxes of crackers on my floor that I deemed not good today. It's so embarrassing.

Sorry for such a late reply and thank you both! I'm glad it's not just me. I have to keep telling myself that if it's bad I would definitely be able to tell. It's a little embarrassing when people catch you subtly trying to sniff your food before you eat it.

I used to do this all the time!! I promise that if you work hard on your recovery, this behavior will go away too.

Okay I did this when I lived alone. But my boyfriend has a VERY sensitive palate and nose and can tell when something is about to go bad and when it's actually bad (except mayo. I'm the expert there. He likes miracle whip so he would never know if mayo is bad lol). So now if I have any question of something I have him taste it. He has a 100% hit rate. He is ALWAYS right about it (you know, except the mayo lol)
