Angry i thought "that time of year" was over??

I know she had the best intentions, but to be honest, I'm really angry at one of my teachers for announcing that the sv is going around, and so we should all be careful Now I'm struggling to make myself eat and fighting panic attacks. Ugh!! Why did she have to unknowingly ruin my week?? This is a really bad week for this to happen to me too, as I have rehearsals all week and a dance show, so I can't afford to stop eating, get sick, OR be anxious! It was already a stressful week and a stressful time!

Anyone else get irritated when teachers talk about the sv??

Yes totally! It seems like it never stops going around! I work in a school/with kids but it's difficult for me because of my emet as kids are notorious for getting sick!

Just think of it logically, given the amount of people that attend school your chances of getting it are slim. If it makes you feel any better I went through secondary school for 6 years and never caught a sv* (apart from having gastroenteritis one summer but if was well into the holidays)

Just try and use your rehearsals/dance show as a distraction to take your mind off it. This way you won't even have time to get anxious because you'll be too focused on other things! Good luck!

I agree, I wasn't emet in Jr High/High School and literally NEVER washed my hands. NEVER!!!!!! I didn't catch anything after 4th grade. You're totally safe.

Hey, I went through all my school life without catching a sv, I caught it from my sister, she caught it at a party. To be honest I would be pleased if my teacher told my class that there was a sv going around, i would rather be aware so I could up my hygiene, she hasn't ruined your week. It's pretty unusual for a teacher to say that a virus is going round and to be careful, maybe she is emet and trying to keep her class and therefore herself healthy?

My FB feed has been blowing up the past two weeks with people sick with this sv* going around. And it's not your run-of-the-mill 24-hour bug. Oh no. It's fever, body aches, constant v* and explosive d* for days. Then it goes away and two days later hits you again with more v*. Then you feel sick to your stomach for about five more days. Every day at least two of my friends on FB is posting, "well, thought I'd avoid it, but it looks like that bug has caught me now". And all the comments are like, "OMG good luck! I was v* for six days straight!" Of course, it seems to me that Noro season hangs around longer than it used to. It used to be once February passed you were in the clear. The past few years the relentless Noro season has stretched into May, at least in my region.

lizziescarlet, I know she was probably just trying to be helpful. However, high school shouldn't have to be told to wash their hands!! Also, I'm painfully obsessive about hygiene to begin with. I have actual, diagnosed OCD, so all these warnings do is make me more anxious, since I can't possibly be more careful.

mrsjacks, we've been having awful noro seasons where I am as well, not to mention that today it is 7 degrees fahrenheit. In March. We're still getting a couple new inches of snow every week! Damn climate change...this is making me want to move!

I talked to my school nurse about what the teacher said, and she said that she'd heard a couple of people had SVs, but that there's alway something going around, and she doesn't think there's necessarily more SVs going around right now than there usually are. Which made me feel a lot better!

Redastrid I think you would be surprised at the amount of people who do NOT wash their hands whether they are aged 5, 15 or 55, that's how the sv spreads so quickly and easily. Both my mother and youngest sister have extreme OCD so I know that your own personal hygiene couldn't be any better but a lot of the population don't have good hygiene. I actually used to poop in secret because until the age of 10 or so my mother used to scrub my hands after I had been to the loo, as she did my sisters, I know all about OCD, not only does it affect the sufferer but everybody close to them too.
