    Default Biohazard!

    Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for a while but I need your thoughts on this problem. My sister is doing the dishes which is a lovely gesture however iris stressing me out. She is using a sponge that has been sitting on a dirty sink all night and just running the dishes under lukewarm water. We had chicken last night so I am freaking out that she is spreading raw chicken germs onto all the dishes after she has "cleaned" them. I don't want to hurt her feelings as she is sensitive and a moody teenager but I want to get in there and re wash everything in hot soapy water. If I leave the dishes I will be freaking out that salmonella is all over our dishes! Help!

I know "they" hype sponges as one of the dirtiest things in your kitchen. But if she used soap and a salmonella-laden sponge to scrub off the food, then rinsed the dish, wouldn't all the salmonella be washed away with the soap? I hate sponges and use a scrubby brush that can be put in the dishwasher, but as I have said on other posts, I am a freak. My mom and mom-in-law both use icky dish rags that should probably be washed more than they are, and they are rarely sick (and never once traced back to contaminated dishrags). I think the dishes are ok, but re-wash in order to keep your sanity if necessary.
