How long before you throw up after taking penicillin.

So when I was a baby, pencillin made me really sick. Today, I had my wisdom teeth pulled and my dentist prescribed something from the penicillin family. It's to help with infection. The pharmacist said that throwing up is an intolerance and not an allergic reaction. The worst that should happen is a rash. How long will it take before I throw up if I will after taking my medication.

I think I am just worried about it making me so sick that could die or something.

You are NOT going to die!!! It most likely won't even make you sick. Antibiotics are prescribed to people every single day in every part of the world. They are completely safe.

Penicillin is very well tolerated. It is probably a more advanced generation from when you were a baby. Ampicillin, amoxicillin. You should not expect that you will puke. Be strong.

I really doubt that it will make you tu*. It is quite uncommon for antibiotics to actually make you v*, n* unfortunately is quite common, but this can be combatted by making sure that you do not take them on an empty stomach and by drinking plenty of water to help flush it through your system. If it was going to make you ill however I would say it would happen fairly quickly, like within half an hour to an hour (the time it takes to dissolve in your stomach as essentially the n* and v* is caused by the antibiotic irritating your stomach lining). I say this because the only antibiotic that I have ever taken that made me feel s* to my stomach (Metronidazole) caused n* within about half an hour of taking it; after every single pill I would be feeling so s*, it was unbearable. I managed 3 days before I asked to be switched to a different one (Erythromycin) which was completely fine, no side effects at all.

Do you actually have an infection? I usually refuse antibiotics after dental procedures unless there is an active infection. They are really not good to be taken for no serious reason.

Stay positive - it likely won't do anything beyond a little nausea. WHEN medication has adverse effects on people, it's usually quite quick that it comes back up. The best thing you can do for yourself is stay positive, don't work yourself up and try your best to keep your anxiety at bay. I say this because you'll likely work yourself into an anxiety attack, causing nausea, and you'll begin to worry that you're sick.

Make sure not to take them on an empty stomach, as I have a friend who can take penicillin, but does TU when she takes it on an empty stomach. Otherwise, absolutely fine. For me it doesn't bother me one way or the other, but some are more sensitive without anything on their tums.

But as socitycourty asked, is there actual infection? Antibiotics are not something to take unless there is infection either heavily suspected, or present, otherwise they lose their effectiveness for future infections.

You will be absolutely fine, regardless, and you will not die! Even IF you were to be sick, yes it would be unpleasant momentarily but the relief you would feel afterwards? Incomparable.
