My hubby just called. One of his co-workers has kids that are all s*,
supposedly with a sv. His co-worker isn't ill, but took one of the kids
to the dr. today because he was up all night v*. Hubby knows about
my phobia and has made sure to steer clear of his co-worker as
much as possible today. He's been using his Purell all day and
washing his hands often. He's not an emet, but has a phobia of
spiders, so he knows the fear that comes with a phobia and does all
he can to help me feel as good as I can about these things. Anyway,
my mind is racing now, wondering if his co-worker will get s*, and if
he passes it on to dh, who in turn passes it on to all of us, we'll all be
getting ill right around Christmas day. Oh Joy. Got my fingers
crossed that dh's co-worker doesn't get sick in the first place.

Amusing, how one processes everything when emet is on the brain.

PeachyKeen,

You are not alone. This has been a very trying couple of weeks for me lately as the sv has been going around here very badly. I won't tell you not to worry and i wish that I could say something to help you cope. The only way that I have gotten through the past two weeks is by writing a lot in my journal, coming to this site a lot, and washing my hands and stearing clear of coworkers. I understand about how the fear just seems to snowball as you described. Pretty much all of my co-workers children were sick and v* and d*. To being you some relief, it seems to be predominately children that have gotten sick at least down here. I don't know if that brings much relief, but try to think positivly and enjoy Christmas.

Hey Peachy, the chances of you getting sickfrom your husband, who gets itfrom your husband's co-worker, who gets it from your husband's co-worker's kid is very slim!! I used to share an office with a guy whose kids got sick a lot, and then he would get sick too, from taking care of them. I was SO annoyed when he came in to work and told me that he v*ed the night before! But I never got anything, and neither did our 3rd officemate. Honestly, this happened so often that I almost stopped caring (note: ALMOST - haha - but I did get desensitized) when he told me about it because I realized I was worrying for nothing.

That's funny--my hubby has told me so many times that if I "analyzed" more things as much as my emet situations, we'd be rich and geniuses!!

It's funny how our brains work, I have been doing the same emet analyzing thing. Last night I found out that my sister-in-law has the *v's. Now I'm thinking, my mother-in-law went over there last night to help out with her kids, so now she is going to probably get it and we are going over to her house on Christmas Eve and all those *sv germs are going to be all over the house and we are all going to get sick. Great...there's goes my good Christmas, I'll be worrying about this till New Years...it seems like something like this happens every year at this time.

Well, I just talked to hubby. His boss is at work today and not s* at all.
I'm holding out hope that he'll be ok tomorrow too, then I won't worry
so much. It just seems like the sv's are going around so bad this year.
My neighbor works at the high school, and she told me last night that so
many kids are out with it - some are even on their second round of
having it! Which tells me that there are several strains going around. [:
(]Geesh, it's not bad enough to have it once, but SEVERAL times? Not
good. I'm hoping with the kids being out on break next week some of
these bugs will die off. Man, it's gonna be a lllllooooonnnnnggggg
winter.

The other day I ate lunch with a friend who ran into a store before I met up with her. She was waiting in line to pay for her items and the lady in front of her in line got a phone call from her kid's daycare because her kid v*'d. I paniced b/c I was afraid my friend may have picked up germs from this woman!

It's scary how much I overanalyze, but I try to tell myself that germs enter my body everyday and I am apparently pretty good at fighting them off.

Why can't everyone live on a farm and tend to the horses like in the good ol' days before sv's and day care centers?

My sister-in law and her family have all been sick with ansv* the beginning of this week. So last night I recieved a Christmas Card from them in the mail and I was afraid to touch the card because it may have the germs on it. I did open it, but went straight to the sink to wash my hands afterwards.

I found myself doing the same. The school that my little boy attends has been struck down by the stomach bug & i've been making him wash his hands straight away when he comes in. I went to a church service this morning with the whole school & on the way back, one of the little girls that had been sat at the back of me complained of feeling s* & said she had bad tummy ache Horror of horrors!! I came home & went straight in the bath, scrubbed myself & checked up on the net how exactly this nastiness is spread.

I feela little less tense now as I read the stomach viruses can only be spread through spreading bodily fluids, bad hygiene etc NOT through breathing the same air as them! I copied & pasted this little extract from the website:

"Many different viruses can cause gastroenteritis, including rotaviruses, adenoviruses, and the Norwalk virus. Gastroenteritis is caused by swallowing one of these viruses. The body fluids of infected people contain the virus, sometimes even before their symptoms begin. The virus can be spread by direct contact with an infected person (for example, kissing or shaking hands) or by sharing food, drink, or eating utensils."

It went on to say just basically wash your hands thoroughly whenever in contact with infected peoples poop or bodily fluids...

Maybe it will be a happy relaxed Christmas after all

This has happened to me before, I ended up throwing the card away and sterilizing my hands!! Now I'm paranoid while opening the card envelopes, in that I won't touch the part that was licked (to seal it), while opening it. Weird, huh???
