This year we are having Christmas Eve at my house. I can't get any time off work, though, so my mom is going to cook the food and bring it over. We always have hot sandwiches - turkey and beef. We make a turkey, slice it up and put it in gravy, and the same with a beef roast. My mom is planning on making hte turkey on Wednesday and the beef on Thursday, but I am concerned it won't be good by Saturday then. She said she talked to the butcher and he said it would be fine, but I am concerned. What do you think? Or where can I find out if it will be okay? I don't want to poison everyone at my house on Saturday!

I trust turkey up to a week. 5 days is fine then it starts tasting old, but still won't hurt you. As long as you keep it in the refrigerator and not sitting out. Go on this theory --> they sell turkey breast as cold cuts in the deli and that stuff is good for about a week. For turkey cooked on Wednesday, I would try to eat it all by Monday. If I had leftovers Monday, I would use the leftovers to make a turkey soup and eat that over a day or two. Then I would give up and get rid of the leftovers.

Hope that helps. I used to cook in restaurant kitchens and we didn't have issues with food poisoning, but I think that's mostly if the food is left out at room temperature too long or is undercooked.

An Italian sports car just took the words right outta my mouth.
Generally the expiry dates from the deli on sliced lunchean meats are
about a week but it would be ideal if you can stall on the prep of the
turkey an extra day or two so it tastes better and so you can save some
leftovers if applicable. Even though it will destroy the whole look and
feel of it, I'd slice it after it's cooked, then wrap it and keep in
the fridge. (As opposed to storing it without slicing it first)

Spriechen sie Deutsch?!?! She's German, not Italian But the Italians make some nice cars, a la Ferrari and Maserati. As long as we don't mistake her for the Czech car the Yugo, we're good to go

I agree to try and prep the turkey as close to the day of the party as possible so it's less dried out!

Ooops.

That is why I'm answering questions about turkey and not about cars.

When I think about German cars, BMW, VW and MB come to mind. I really
thought Porsche was Italian. Didn't give the name/language any thought.

The only thing your turkey will be is dried out. It's totally safe - and I went to culinary school. But honestly, it's all about the gravy anyway....isn't it?

The turkey would be fine, although as liriodendron said I would slice it up and store the slices if it's going to be cooked then but in my opinion the turkey should be fine!

Oh yeah, anything's better than trying that right now! Although, it surely wouldn't be crowded waiting for the train!!!

Good luck with the Turkey, send me the leftovers! Edited by: 1987porsche944
