Hey everyone! I'm so glad I found a group of people I can really relate to when it comes to v*... words can't even tell how happy I am. This is my first post here and hopefully not my last. I have a question for everyone about drinking (as naive and lame as that sounds)...

I'm in college and all my life I've been afraid of drinking with the other kids because of my fear of V*.I can honestly say I've never taken more of a sip of any cocktail, no matter how watered down or great tasting it was. Now that I'm of age, I'd really like to ring in the New Year with a drink. I know it sounds silly, but I'm tired of v* holding me back!! I want to party the right way with my friends and I don't want this to hold me down.

I haven't v*'d in over ten years, and I'm afraid that being drunk or drinking in general will make me nauseous or maybe even make me v*. I'm not saying I want to get totally wasted, but I'd love to at least try, you know?

How does drinking make you feel? Are there any surefire ways to avoid v*ing? Are there any drinks to avoid?

no matter how old you are, how much you weight, one drink will not make you v*, well it depends on how much alcohol is in it .. but that's beside the point. i'm 16 and i've been drunk outta my tree before and never have had (and hopefully never will!) any problems

    Yeah...

It's so crazy... it's like, I should know that one drink wouldn't make me v*, but it still scares the hell out of me. I don't know.. thanks a bunch, though. What are your tricks for avoiding the v*?

You wont v* from just one drink. I would recommend an alcopop because they are not very strong, or even have a spirit. If you have a spirit, ask for lots of mixer so you drink it slower and you will do fine

Have that New Year drink! Or maybe even two! As long as you pace it and don't mix too many different things you'll be fine.

Personally, I always know my limit now. I have only v* once due to alcohol and I was blatantly stupid that time (having had a salad for dinner, to then drink 9 shots of tequila..). As you have more alcohol more frequently, you will know what is best for you. AVOID TEQUILA!!

I would also like to add that as long as u have had some food before drinking, then the alcohol will take longer to pass through ur system and therefore u wont have the sudden dizzy/nausea inducing feeling that those who drink on an empty stomach experience.

yes deffinately avoid tequila or any shots in general! since you are not used to alcohol they might make you a bit n*. I dont mix drinks and normally have malibu with coke or lemonade (it is so nice with lemonade!), tia maria and coke or baileys hmmmmm. I drink vodkatoo but dont really like it, it just tastes like mixer with antifreeze yuck!Just remember not to start panicing if you feel a little light headed, it doesnt mean you will get sick! Also have a glass of water before bed to reduce any dehydration. Enjoy yourself!

I agree with Holly- drink a massive glass of water before bed!

    Some other groundrules for drinking-

dont mix- stick with one type of alcohol a night

eat beforehand, and during- alcohol on an empty stomach is a one-way ticket to drunksville

drink slowly- one drink per hour- that usually prevents you from getting more than a bit tipsy
AS for someone recommending alcopop (i'm assuming that's coolers in North American speak)- they do go down easy, but beware. Since they dont taste like they have a lot of alcohol in it, it's easy to overindulge (whereas in reality they can have a pretty high alcohol %). That, and if you are prone to sugar headaches (like I am) it may not be the best choice. When I drink one my teeth hurt for 2 days.

Another thing- if you do get into the whole new years thing and drink too much- don't take anything to prevent yourself from vomitting. That is your body's way of getting rid of the alcohol- which can do a lot of damage if taken in excess. If you take something to keep yourself from throwing up, the alcohol can do a number on your system- in some cases it has even caused death.

Have an awesome New Years! I have gotten sick three times from alcohol- and considering I have been drinking for over 10 years (we start early in the north) that's pretty good The last time though.......that is when I REALLY learned my lesson. I was never so sick in my life (birthday- bottle of wine, about 16 shots, and 2 beer- surprised I didnt end up in the hospital-stupid STUPID move)

    New Years.....

2 of my best friends, and my boyfriend and I rented a suite on Yonge St in Toronto. Since my friends are both gay, I have the sneaking suspicion that I will be celebrating the New Year surrounded by half a dozen drag queens (and trying to get a girlfriend for Steph). I am semi-anxious about someone being sick in the room- but I know that Steph has gotten sick off alcohol once and knows when to stop drinking, Chris (the friend) will stop when I give him the evil eye, and Chris (the boyfriend) is a bit broke from Xmas, so won't be spending a lot on alcohol . If someone is sick- I am going to cab it to my Aunt's apartment (a few blocks away) just so I wont have my new year's ruined.

I'm just happy that my BF has New Year's off work- since the poor guy is working xmas eve and xmas day.

Just stick with light beers. They're easy enough. After some practice
even if you are thin you can down a 4-6 in an evening and not get all
that drunk. You'll start to get buzzed after beer #1 though if you've
never had a full beer before. You might want to stop after beer #2 if
    this is your first time.

ok.. i spose u wudnt know yet if ur a beer drinker or not since u havnt drunk much before... i like the occasional beer but i find that if thats wot im drinking that night after about 2 or 3 i get realy bloated and feel sick... i dont think this happens to guys which is why they love the stuff so much... i tend to stick to drinks like vodka, malibu, midori, etc... just be careful if ur mixing ur own drinks cos once u start to get tipsy u will keep thinking 'oh two nips wont hurt in this one i feel fine and wana keep having fun'... WRONG!!! big mistake... thats when u get sick cos ur consuming it too fast... i suggest buying premixed drinks proly a 5% so this wont happen and definately eat a big carbo-loaded meal before hand and try and eat snacks while ur drinking too.. chips are good... also hav a glass of water every now and then... to prevent dehydration and hangovers ur meant to hav a drink an hour and a glass of water after every drink... but we tend to forget or skip this step lol and thats why we get sick or hungover... if u can drink water when u remember, do... it helps a lot... dont be scared of drinking... it lowers ur inhibitions and relaxes u... if u drink sensibly... so just enjoy urself, enjoy the taste, enjoy ur friends and the laughs, just eat, dont drink fast and remember to dirnk water... u will be fine

LOL, I'm a beer drinker, definitely have the female parts- and only find that I get the extreme bloated/sick feeling if I drink too much guinness. Regular beer- or even a light beer as Todd suggested goes down nice and smooth for me (unless it's American beer- although the US has accomplished many things, it has yet to brew a beer that doesn't taste like sewage).

There's a few beers that I like but there's also a few that I can not tolerate.

Heineken gives me that bloated, "filled up" feeling right away after a
couple sips. Corona.... I don't know how anyone drinks that either. Ice
    House is really bad too.

For taste, JW Dundee's Honey Brown lager is my favorite. For everyday drinking, I go with Michelobe light.

I stay away from other types of alcoholic beverage simply because I
know they are really yummy and I judging by how my family drinks, I
don't trust myself with that. I get addicted to things pretty easy.
