I'm having serious issues with this concept right now. I don't know the difference between nausea and hunger. I "guesstimate" when I'm hungry by calculating the last time I ate something substancial. But because of the nausea, I lose my appetite - so it only gets worse until eventually it seems to *magically* go away and I can eat, but that usually takes a good 12+hours of pure misery.

Anyone else have trouble with this?

I remember trying to figure this out when i was younger because i knew that there was real hunger and then there was sort of the viceroy butterfly of hunger, it was a fake hunger that signaled or indicated there was a potental for sickness...I could tell that the fake hunger was present but its hard to explain the difference I can just say that it feels like somthing is "off" and it makesme notwant to eat...and makes mystomach feet acidy...if that makes any sense. It sounds like you need to eat more...i realized that when i didnt eat it made me feel sicker and actually n*.It sounds like your body cant handle the food because you dont eat very often....

I went through a tough time with this too, when I rarely ever ate. I couldn't tell the difference, so I just ate every single time I felt that feeling in my stomach, and you want to know what, it has ALWAYS been hunger. Now since I eat alot more, I never get that "what is this feeling" in my stomach. Real nausea is a complete different feeling, and the reason you lose your appetite is because your probably overly hungry. Just eat, and the feeling will go away.

O MY GOSH, yes! Me! I defintitly have problems wiht this! my stomach has three stages.

    1.) n*

    2.)hunger

3.)nothing (the rare moments when it is quiet and not bothering me)

I wake up and feel hungry (and I know its hunger because I want to eat). after I eat I feel sick to my stomach and fight the n*. when the n* passes, I'm instantly hungry, and it begins all over again, a constant cycle. i really don't like it. sometimes I really believe there is something wrong with me and I need a doctor. I know its not a stomach virus cause its been going on longer than a month. As a matter of fact, I can't figure out if I'm n* now or just hungry. Its like my tummy is itchy or something.

But, I'm soooo glad to hear someone else can't figure out if its hunger or n*!

It's so funny you all are asking this! The whole reason I ever found this board was typing "difference hunger and nausea" into Google. I struggle with this constantly. I don't know if there is an answer, but I like to test myself. When I am debating if I am hungry, if I think about food, my mouth waters. If I'm nauseous, my mouth doesn't water. I don't think it's a scientific method...lol, but it works for me.
I\'m not completely insane; I\'m just a little bit crazy.

I find real hunger can turn into nausea - all those stomach acids, yuk! I always try and eat before I get too hungry otherwise I have a mouthful and everything goes crampy.

I don't think that anyone can explain what hunger feels like.

But I do think that if you are trying to figure out the difference between nausea and hunger, then what you arefeeling must certainly be hunger.

In the absence of a serious gastrointestinal problem, I don't think that people experience real nausea on a daily basis. But people do experience hunger on a daily basis - several times per day. So, when you feel the confusing feeling, I would recommend eating. The odds are in your favor that you feel hunger since that is what people commonly feel every day, whereas they don't commonly feel nausea.

Otherwise, I recommend going to a doctor to find out what gastrointestinal problem is causing actual nausea on a daily basis.
