Default elevated temp after possible exposure..

am i being crazy? i did my neighbors daughters hair on sunday, shes 8. she was fine all week up until thursday night. her mom is my best friend and i see her everyday. after school on thursday she started out of both ends and was sick until sat when her older sister also got sick. both ends. i gave the mom tea and meds for them outside from my porch but did not touch her and immediately ran inside and washed my hands. the other two children next to them also got sick. my mom is their teacher and she said 20 kids were out on friday. i am SCARED to DEATH now. my neighbor panicked herself into v* one time but just had n* and was fine and her parents that live with her havent gotten it. today i have a temp of 99.5 and im scared that this means i am incubating something. i dont feel sick but i have been in a state of panic over this all weekend. HELP!!

I get an elevated temp (in the same range yours is in) when I'm anxious. I guarantee if I'm panicking about something, even non-emet-related (like work stress) my temp will be 99.5ish. It's one of the ways our bodies respond to stress. If you don't feel sick, I don't think you are sick. Just try to relax as much as possible, read, knit, do something with your hands that distracts you, and then take your temp again. It doesn't sound like you were truly exposed because you washed your hands. Deep breaths!

Also, are you a woman by chance? Your temp can go up a bit depending on where you are in your cycle. That's another thing it could be. Happens to me even though I'm on BC I've noticed (not sure if that's good or bad in terms of what the BC is supposed to be doing, lol!)

I guarantee that your temp is probably around 99.5 all the time without you knowing. If you're almost due for your period then it would be normal for your temp to go up a bit, plus the anxiety. You're at ZERO risk, even with them living next door. You'd have to go over, touch things they'd touched, put your hands in your mouth/up your nose/eat without washing your hands for you to be truly exposed. I PROMISE you are fine.

For what it's worth, every time I've had a sv, the fever started after the other symptoms.

I hope you're feeling better this morning. As others have said, it's normal for your temperature to go up a little bit right before your period starts. It doesn't mean you're sick though.

I think you're very sweet to check on your neighbors and bring them supplies! As long as you are washing your hands (which you are), I think you will be fine. If the adults in the house aren't sick, it's possibly some kind of virus that mainly affects children.
