    Default Upper Abdominal Pain

Hello. I am a male who had just turned 18 about a week and a half ago. I weigh 117 lbs or so (I weighed more but lost a lot due to my fear) and stand at 5’7. I have acid reflux but haven’t had any bouts for a couple years. Just thought I’d give some info in case it might factor into what’s going on.

Anyways, since around September of this year, I noticed after eating, I’d get this sharp pain in my upper abdominal region. The pain itself isn’t terrible & doesn’t make me sick. As a matter of fact, I’ve gotten hungry while having it, haha. But this particular bout of pain I’m experiencing as I type this is hitting me, not only in my stomach, but on the right side of my ribs, near my chest, as well & hurts pretty damn bad to where I feel I need to squeeze the areas I feel the pain in.

I kind of just realized something too.. this pain only really occurs after I’ve eaten canned food like spaghetti and raviolis. At least those are the only times I remember these bouts occurring.

What could it be? Is it something serious? Could I eventually vomit from this?

It sounds like it could still be acid reflux. I suffer from this as well, and my GI doctor told me that although you may feel upper abdominal/chest pain, it’s often radiating from the stomach. Also, the fact you notice it after eating canned/highly acidic food also points to acid reflux. Do you take anything for it? My doctor started me on prescription strength omeprazle and it has helped immensely. You can also get it OTC, just at a lesser strength.

I had a feeling it might’ve still been acid reflux, especially after I made that realization. As for medication, no. When I first had GERD, I was taking TUMS.

Eventually I started using Pepcid & Pepto Bismol. I don’t know if the latter has anything to do with acid reflux but it was being taken at the same time as Pepcid and both helped greatly when it came to soothing stomach pain and heartburn.

Perhaps I’ll talk to my doctor about it soon. In the meantime, I’m just going to avoid eating canned foods for now.

Get your gallbladder checked. I had similar symptoms when my gallbladder was only functioning at 6%. Anything below 35% they like to take the gallbladder out, so mine was really bad. This did not ever cause me to vomit, so I would not be too worried. try to get a prescription for zofran if you can
