I loved the side effects of the vaccine...I do think that I will get it for my son if the Pediatrician says she thinks it's a good idea.
TRY to live each day like it were your last
Why can't I get it? Myabe it won't effect me as severly, but it will still effect me.
From the sounds of the artical, and what I've been told by my ped, is
that it will only be given to infants at their 2, 4, and 6 month well visits.
The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent the severe dehydration that
can come along with rotovirus in small children, primarily in children
under two. The risk of dehydration goes down in older children and
adults. Plus, rotovirus mostly effects children, not adults, so it wouldn't
really help us anyway. When we get a sv it's usually a virus in the noro
family. This is a great advancement for our babies though!
wow I SO hope the come up with a vaccine against norwalk or general stomach flue. That would be amazing!
I think that there are so many strains of these viruses out there that it would be hard to come up with a vaccine for it. I say our best bet is to continue doing what we do ........ keep up the handwashing and keeping our hands away from our nose, mouth and eyes, which is how these bugs we dread mainly get into our systems. I am not trying to sound like a downer, but I dont know if its possible to have a vaccine for the noro-like viruses. Much as I would love for there to be one, I would want to be first in line!!!!
I think its great that there is a vaccine out for rotavirus now. I agree peachykeen, this is a great advancement for our babies!!!!
Jennyleigh:yeah there are so many strains, just like the influenza. I know it takes a long time to get a proper flu vaccine, and even then the strains are changing rapidly making us need new vaccines so often. I just can't help but think it could be done, it's just not as important to prevent as influenza to most in the medical field. (which I'll neverunderstand)
But on the bright side, hurrah for the rotovirus vaccine!![]()
This vaccine will protect against the 5 prominent viruses that cause rotavirus.
They could do the same thing with noroviruses since it is a group of viruses.
Well, if its even a possibility, I sure wish they would hurry up with it!!!!
I would be happy of a vaccine were developed that could imunize us against even a some of thestrains of sv. At least it would reduce the number of viruses a person could catch. Oh well; until then, just keep up the good hygiene!
I agree with rileyl!
I didn't read the article, but from what you all have posted it won't help my son. He's 2 so I guess he's too old for it. I read somewhere that 40% of kids will get roto before they turn 4 years old, and after that the chances of getting it go down. I've heard that if adults get it, they usually only have d*.
Proud to be a FIREFIGHTER\'S GIRLFRIEND!!
