I went to work last night and a girl who was working was feeling sick. She said she threw up 3 times before work and kept leaving to throw up. DISGUSTING. I WORK IN A RESTAURANT. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I'm so mad.

I had to also work this morning and she was there AGAIN, still sick and throwing up, and ANOTHER girl was there, running back and forth throwing up and serving tables. I made my boss send home one girl early because I told him that was just the grosset thing ever to have someone sick around food.

I am so upset about this. I was there thursday/friday/saturday/sunday and I have to work tommorow too. So I've been exposed...touched the same things, I'm so worried.

I'm so scared I'm going to get sick from these girls. I'm petrified.
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3

Sorry you are going through this at the moment and it is so unecessary. I can not believe that the sick girls were so irresponsible to come in to work and expose all the other workers and also all the customers. It is terrible. I hope you stay well. Good luck!

Well I know that. Trust me, I told my boss how unresponsible it was.

I'm so scared. I feel all worried and tense and I'm exhausted.

I can't believe they came in like that. That is so gross. I'm sorry you are going through this right now. Hasn't this happened at your work before where a few people came in sick like that? I think I remember reading posts like that. Try not to worry about it. I know. Easier said than done.

Well that sucks and it is gross! I hope no emets ate there today! I was eating at a place once and had just gotten my order when I heard one of the waitresses say "Yeah she'll have to go home, she said she feels like v*," and I flipped out. A bunch of customers looked at her and another waitress said "well let's just tell everybody about it" really sarcastic. Needless to say, I couldn't eat. I took a couple bites so my friend wouldn't think anything was wrong, but I could barely stand to watch him eat. I didn't go around him again until I knew he hadn't caught anything.

This is why I am not going out to eat for the next few weeks. I don't trust people who work in restaurants. I rarely go out to eat at any time of the year. People are DISGUSTING!!!!! Good for you for having your boss send them home. Where in Canada are you??

That's just terrible! I mean when I'm sick and V*ing the last thing I want to do is be up and walking around! I mean how can these people actually WORK? That's just crazy...and in the food service industry? GIVE ME A BREAK! I can't believe that! It makes me not want to eat at a resteraunt ever again!

I'm still so upset. I got really upset last night and ended up crying becauseI was so worried. I woke up this morning feeling gross and anxious still. My face us all pale and puffy I'm scared that means I'm getting the dreaded virus. I keep telling myself it might not be a stomac virus. But I have to go back to work tonight and I'm so scared of getting sick AT work. Ugh. Help.

You poor thing...i would just not go in tonight if i were you....you need to rest and stay away from there since other sick people have been in there working...which is insane to me...i would have been so mad about that. That is why so many things spread so fast...people don't take care of themselves when they are sick...they just keep on going out and spreading their germs...i would take the night off to relax and calm down...good luck.

I would love to do that, but I can't call in sick. I have no way out of it. I just hope that when i get there it's not busy and I can get out early.

okay, where in Canada are you and if you're anywhere near Toronto, what restaurant is this? That's horrible, by the way, and they could get fined by the health department for allowing it to go on.

    Not near Toronto, don't worry.

That's why I made one of them go home, I was freaking out.

you poor thing sorr you had to go through that! THat is both irresponsible for the workers and the resturaunt. Things like this so infuriate me! Who in their right mind thinks its ok work around food when you are ill? Honestly I think it should be illegal, not just from an emet perspective but what about people with immunity deseases? There is a pretty significant population, the elderly, those with cancer, diabetics, young children ect. How can some one running a resturaunt think its better to be staffed and passing out awful illnesses rather then be under staffed and be serving SAFE food. Nothing beats the almightly dollar I suppose...

    Crazy Beautiful-

I quit a job when I was in high school for those reasons (it was kind of the last straw on top of a number of other reasons.) The last day I was there, two of the cooks were sick to their stomachs and v* while cooking bacon!!!! I made it through the shift and put in my two weeks notice the next day. Emet or not, that is NOT ok!!!! I don't blame you for beign upset about it, anyone would be!!

That's awful. they think it's their duty to come in to work, sick or not. I would rather pick up the slack than get sick from them.

You are obviously the only one thinking straight here since an sv* is spread through food handlers almost most of the time. Those girls should not have come to work sick and your boss should have made them go home. That's exactly how we spread things around. UGH! That makes me so mad.

Anyway, I hope that you are still healthy and that you have calmed down a little bit. I'm sure if you keep washing your hands and keep them away from your face that you'll be ok. Good Luck! Keep us posted.

I was just checking up on this, and as I thought there is advice on
Norwalk (and the same goes for all other sv) that the CDC give out and
    it states:-

".. Many local and state health departments require that food handlers
and preparers with gastroenteritis NOT work until 2 or 3 days after
    they feel better"

So the boss may be breaking state laws in having sick people working
around food. Might be worth while checking up on your state laws
and leaving a discrete (but anonymous) reminder of the state laws on
    your bosses desk.

Excuse me, but I would make a call to the local health department so friggin' fast. Everyone involved should be reported. The girls who came in were morons for doing so. However, the full weight of the responsibility falls on the inept manager who allowed them to work under those conditions.

ALL restaurant managers receiveguidelines, rules and regulations from their local health departments. There is definitely a huge section about communicable diseases, hand washing, food handling, etc. (MyBIL is VP of Food Service at a huge hospital in my city and I have seen the book.) There is there is a section about v**** food handlers being a bigNO-NO while handling food. I would report this person so fast.

That is so gross, in fact I posted something last week about how a resturant here in Michigan was cited and shut down because they had v* employees. Over 300 people got sick and 14 staff got the virus from 1 sick cook and 2 sick waitress. Those sick employees are putting everyone at risk, not to mention a very big lawsuit if an outbreak does happen.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, I'm a server and when I had a 24-hour diarrhea bug, I stayed home!!!! And it was just diarrhea, not v*. So there's one good honest person in the world! I even told my boss I refuse to come in and spread my germs around. And they were okay with it.

Well...adding to this outrage...today at work, one of our bartenders was sick with vomiting and diahrea, and continued to work!!!!...she looked sick and told everyone she felt sick....she was garnishing all the customers drinks and everything!!!! after she left today she called in sick for tomorrow....thank god....but here's the bad thing too, my husband is a bartender there too, so he'll be there taking her place tomorrow...using the same phone...same touch screen computer....same everything!!!!, you know the thing is, only us emets even think about the contagiousness of these things, everyone else just brushes it off, that's what sucks!!

And this would be my big reason for not eating out, ever. I know there is a lot of wonderful food out there, and I LOVE to eat, but I will not riskit. Maybe their should be a resteraunt madefor and run only by emets.

Or maybeour own country? Imagine a vomit free nation!

And hello, I am new here and glad to find others whodespise vomiting as much as I do.
