I am so sick of work that I can't stand it anymore....I know that a lot people here probably have good advice in this category... I help people all day figure out what they want to do job wise and help them get back on their feet....Why can't I fugure this out for myself?? I am so negative, I hate sitting in an office all day, I find it so boring. I figure that I have my degree in business so what else can I do. I feel so stressed out all of the time, so tired, like there is so much weight sitting on my shoulders. I feel totally hopeless and I have come to the conclusion that I am going to hate any job that I have. Sorry that this is so grumpy, but I feel like crying right now...I feel like I am never going to enjoy coming to work everyday. Is this the way everyone feels??? Has anyone experienced this feeling, and how did you figure out what you enjoyed doing?? Is there hope??

Sorry u r feeling this way. I've been in your shoes before. I understand how u r feeling. You obviously haven't found the right job yet. You will find one. When I'm going to work, and I know I have work to do, I'm happy as can be. You'll know you'll like your job when you feel like you've accomplished something when you get home. It's a great feeling. But even people who like their jobs don't like going to work every day b/c it eventually wears on them. All jobs, in my opinion are like that. It's good to like the people you work with too. Finding the right job is very hard. You have to work at some yucky ones first before the right one comes along. Or you may be lucky and find that the next job is perfect for you. You may not even find "the right one", but something close to it at least. I'm still looking for mine too, but don't let it get you down. Be positive and make the best of what you have right now. In the meantime, look for something else. Working isn't everything either, u know? Hope this helps a little.

silver, I'm right there with you. I'm in college and my major has changed so many times...I should be graduating this May but I have decided to change it AGAIN, putting me 4 years behind. And you knowwhat? I still don't feel like I've made the right career choice. I've gone from teaching to archaeology to anthropolgy to forensics to occupational therapist to physical therapist to pharmacy...that's where I've decided to go recently. But every time I decide on something, it doesn't feel right. I'm getting ready to take out $75,000 in loans to go to pharmacy school and I don't even know for sure if I'll like it. So yeah, I know what you mean about not being able to find the "right job."

Oh my gosh Falon. You've gone to school for a lot of things. I'm not saying that's bad or anything. Just a lot of hard work. Did u do work in all of those fields? I started out going to school for psychology, then professional writing, and then I decided on being a paralegal. I've also worked for a title company too which I really liked. I like real estate. I just like a lot of stuff. I think I read somewhere that the average person goes through 10 jobs or something like that before they find the right one. Don't quote me on that though.lol It is very hard trying to figure out what you want to do. I like the legal field, being busy, being around people (I like to talk), typing, etc. Learning new things.

    Silver,

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you hate going to work each day. I unfortunately am in a similar situation. I also have a worthless degee in business but have never found my "niche" so to speak. I am in my late 30's and still don't know what I want to do when I grow up but have NEVER been happy working in an office (I've worked in non-profit, manufacturing, retail/service, collections, and contracting enviroments). I recently decided that maybe I'd like being a paralegal and am taking classes at the local community college. But if this doesn't work out -- I don't know what I am going to do. I want to work for a living BUT absolutely hate working at least where I am and have been.

I hope that you find what your good at and learn to like your job. I wish I had more positive feedback but my experiences have been identical to yours.

I'm sorry you are feeling this way. I think it's normal lol. I mean I don't even have a "career" at 28 yrs old and wonder if when I'm done w/ all my schooling if I will even want the damn thing lol. If you aren't happy try some soul searching, what makes you happy? No one should have to dread waking up in the morning. You can always go back to school for soemthing else. My Mom went back at 40 after 20 yrs in insurance to become a nurse. It's not an endless dark pit, I promise!

Thanks for the advice and experiences, they really help a lot...I usually start out really enjoying a job and then after about a year, I start hating it so bad and getting really depressed. I really feel like there is something wrong with me. I get so stressed out that I want to quit and that's where I am right now. I know that most of the negativity right now is my depression talking. I recently got a script for Wellbutrin, has anyone tried it?? I think that it would probably be a good idea to start the medication before making any rash decisions about leaving. I usually love the people here that I work with, but lately I have been hiding in my office, feeling angry with them, and not socializing with anyone much. I am just so tired of this pattern of doing well and the hitting rock bottom with depression. I feel like I can't handle stress at all and have no self-esteem left. Three years ago I was so confident with everything that I did, now I can barely face new things or new challenges....For example I have a job interview today and I am so nervous and feel like I am going to fail, I have literally made myself sick over stressing about it......So tired of this........

I feel EXACTLY the same way. It's one thing to hate the job you are currently at but when you start feeling like you will NEVER like any job, that really gets you down. That's how I feel too. I wish someone would just tell me what I would enjoy doing and hand it to me on a silver platter!!

    silver,

When you sought a degree in business, was it because business was something fascinating and interesting to you or because you just thought it would be a good way to get a job? The reason I ask is because I believe that a person needs to start with thinking about what he or she enjoys doing. It sounds like a cliche, but it is true.

I majored in accounting because I thought it was an easy way to become employed. I got a job, spent three years hating it, then remembered that I love English literature but had been worried about jobs. I went back to school for English Lit., got a Master's and am now in my third year of a Ph.d. program. I will teach at the college level for my career and I will research. These are two things that I love. The love of teaching has developed the more I taught during my Master's program.

I am telling this story to illustrate what a difference it makes when you like something a lot.

So what do you like, and how can it relate to possible jobs?

I am going through such a simalar phase as you! For most of my education I have just assumed that I would be a manager, study business at college and that was that. Im in my last year of studying and have grown to increasingly hate business. My boss spoke to me about it and to cut a LONG story short she made me realise that I had been doing business because I *could* do it and not because I wanted to. I was very good at the subject but in reality it wasn't for me.

I've learned that I'd feel much more comfortable in a job helping people. After I have finnished this course I'll be taking a course in Care and also an Art course as I have never had the oppourtunity to study art and I really enjoy it. I'll be doing this for a year and in my spare time volunteering with children with learning disabilities. I think through helping other people I will help myself, if that makes sense.. I will still finnish this course however so I still have that business qualification if I ever decide to turn back.

Maybe your in the same situation as me? It sounds like it but I'm not entirely sure! Maybe not care work but something simalar, or completely different? Interior Design? Web Design? Even running your own business? Is there any home learning courses you can take in your spare time in something you really enjoy but feel you have missed out on? I'd give it all some serious thought, and it may all be trial and error but you WILL find something that grabs you - we just have to taste different areas/things!

    I hope this helps!
