Hi Everyone

My name's Vicki, i'm 25 and live in Cambridge in the UK. I discovered this site only last week and have been suffering from a fear of v* for years. I don't know what triggered it but feel like it is running my life.

I am really worried at the moment because there is a winter v* bug flying round the UK and partularly this area and i am trying desperately hard to avoid it, although i believe it can be spread through droplets in the air so have got no chance really. I keep on at my husband to wash hs hands and don't share mugs etc - i think he think's i'm going nuts!!!

Anyway, it is really interesting reading all your posts and i hope now i've found this site, i don't feel so abnormal!

Welcome to this site. I live in England in Berkshire. I have had this phobia for ever it seems. No one else knows about it. I have 2 children and i am always asking them if they feel ill. Its a nightmare. This site has really helped me as i now know i am not alone.

I just cant wait until Spring is here. I am so fed up hearing other people talking about how ill they have been. I get so down about feeling like this and just wish it could stop.

Welcome to the site Vicki. I know how worrying it is in the UK at the moment. Remember though that most of the outbreaks of this bug are occuring in schools and hospitals. The bug is around every winter, all year round in fact, but we only hear about it when there are outbreaks in schools and hospitals. This isn't a new disease so your risk is probably no higher than normal. The flu is going round too and seems more prevalent in fact than the winter v* virus. The thing is though, when the media reports schools closing or high numbers off ill, it hasn't necessarily been the WVV, often it has been flu. The schools don't know for certain why so many people are off; if a few report in with v* then they will assume that this is causing all the other absences...and this is what we hear in the media.

I know how you feel though, I'm scared of taking my kids to school just incase they catch anything...roll on half term and Spring! Keep up the hand-washing, this will help. You'll probably only catch an airborne virus if you're in close proximity of someone who v*, so again there's a good chance you'll be fine.

Post again though to air any worries, we all know how you feel.

Yes Suze is right. We have half term now, so i am going to stay at home with the Kids. I have brought some hand wash stuff that is alcholol based and it says it kills 99% of germs, so i get my kids to wash there hands each time with it before they eat.

I get so low about this, however, at least we are not alone and we can all share our thoughts without feeling silly.

A special thank you to my daughter Alyssa. Your strength and courage gives me great inspiration. Where I am weak, you are strong. I will always love you.
