I am going to be having surgery to remove a dermoid cyst on my ovary. I have to havea laparotomy and will be in the hospital for 2 to 3 days. Has anyone out there had anything similar to this procedure? What type of anesthesia did you have? I have undergone general once to have my wisdom teeth removed, but I am not sure if that would be the same type I would receive in the hospital. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello and welcome halfoverthefur!

I had surgery last June, and I told the anesthesiologist(sp?) that I was afraid of v*ing when I woke up from surgery, and she said they would fix it. I'm telling ya, they can put some great stuff in the anesthesia so that when you wake up you don't feel nauseas at all. Just talk to your doc about it, and mention it to the anasthes. person and you should be fine.

Thanks Galadriel! What type of surgery did you have? I have heard that any type of abdominal or pelvic surgery can cause nausea, despite of the anesthesia. Also the fact that I am a nonsmoking female increases my risk. I have just been a wreck since I found out I needed surgery.

I've had lap done twice (last time was June 2004) and was fine both times. The last time, I told my doc that I was terrified that I would be N and they gave me Zofran in my IV before surgery, after surgery, and before leaving, then sent me home with a script for phenergan. No problems at all.
