I hate this, I feel like I want to quarantine my children from everyone!! My dad and my younger sister came over last night to give my children their Valentines, and my sister had a headache, this IS my emet sister--I was a little nervous, because she gets a headache before she gets SV symptoms--everytime! But, she also has chronic sinus problems and is a hypochondriac and ALWAYS says she doesn't feel good, so I kind of let it go, until she opened Haley's box of candy, broke one of the pieces and gave half to Haley. Well, they left and I guess she started feeling like she was going to v*, and still does this morning--and she isn't the type that gets n* because of headaches. My mom called this morning to tell me not to go over to their house because my sister is "SICK" if it was just a headache, my mom would blow it off and not even tell me. agh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when will it end?

From my experience with SV, the symptoms usually come on pretty suddenly. If you start feeling sick, you would probably have v* or diarrhea within a couple of hours. It sounds like it might be something else with your sister. I know sometimes sinus problems can make you sick to your stomach from the postnasal drip. Maybe your mom meant that your sister has a sinus infection. Keep your fingers crossed on that one!

I know how you feel! Its scary stuff! How are you and your children feeling? Any headachy signs etc?

Im sure LOADS of people who have been around sick people and have never caught it so there is such a high chance that you will all be fine!

And as she is a hypocondriac, a friend of mine (who also is!) worked him self up so much that he V*ed, but he is fine now. He just did it down to stressing himself out so much, and in the end it was just down to nerves, so maybe that is the case with your sister? Especially as she is an emet!

Let us know how its going!

Donna...I too am a hypochondriac and I always feel sick, so I can relate to her. I bet she did not V* as she would have needed your support being an EMET. I do know that the SV going around here does begin with a bad headache, but I am surprised that she V*'d without letting you know. If she is an EMET, she would run to the phone to talk to you like we all do to this site.

If she did V*, you may want to find out if it was sinus related or the SV. That may help make you feel better and also, I hate that this happens to you, but in a few weeks, it will be better and everyone you know will be fine since they have all been so sick.

yeahI thought about the whole sinus related thing. Everyone
thinks I'm a hypochondriac, but I just don't get enough REM sleep so my
body doesn't heal itself normally, my counselor thinks it's because my
stress levels are so high, go figure! Hopefully it's all just
sinus related and your kids don't get it.

    Donna,

Ugh. She broke off a piece of candy and gave it to your child? I guess I have the reputation of being such a germaphobe because no one who knows me would dare to do that.

Today, my son is home sick with fever and chest congestion. There are 8 boys absent in his class out of a total of 17. The teacher e-mailed to tell me what is going around - stomach upsets and chest congestion. She added that she has been wiping down the desks daily (two times per day as a matter of fact) with theCloroxWipes that I dontated to the class. Yes, the kids call me Mrs. Purell. Yes, I have the clean lady reputation. BUT, all kidding aside, everyone is beginning to see my way. (Of course, we emets know we ARE the right way).

Myson's teacher has been wiping down the desks all school year and they have had almost 100 percent attendance. There have been some kids out for holiday or doctor appointments, etc. but no spread of illness. Yesterday, the first grad ehad their buddy breakfast with the fifth graders and there was so much commotion and little in the way of the hand washing and voila - so many are now sick.

Its February. This is the flu and stomach virus month so we have to be more vigilant. Who knows what your sister has. She may not have had the virus, if it is one, on her hands when she broke the candy. However, being an emet herself she should have washed her hands before handling the child's candy. Okay, so she didn't. You can't kill her. You are now in the wait.

I don't think that you can be sure that this is a stomach virus.
