Sorry if this has already been discussed... are there anyone out there who is an emet and also a doctor? My father's a doctor, and it's always been kind of natural for me to go into that field when I grow up. I never really considered that my emetophobia (well, I didn't know that it had a name until very recently) could come in the way. I suppose a hospital would be one of the most *v people-filled environment...? Do you think I would be stupid if I changed my career plans to ordinary science, or even something else, for the sake of my emet? Becoming a doctor isn't my life-long ambition that I've had since I was three (like a lot of people), but it has been going through my mind a lot lately.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm a police officer... and we deal with a v* infested world as well. Drunks and druggies are the worst, and we spend a lot of time at the hospitals too watching people in custody... not to mention the disgusting crime scenes too that sometimes make my fellow police buddies v*. *sighs* It's stressful, but I love my job and I'm not going to let this stupid phobia (as I call it) control me and deprive me of living my dream and doing what I do best. I haven't had any horror stories yet where someone has v* in front of me... but i pray for strength for the day it does happend because who knows what will happen or how I will react?!?!?!

OMG, i'd love to be a police officer, that is my dream job! I could NEVER go into that field though! I am so jealous! I am so glad you don't let your fear come in the way of a job you love, maybe you will find it will help you overcome your phobia?

As for the doctor field - It doesn't seemed to have bothered you before so why should it now? I think it will be a great accomplishment for you.. and not all illnesses are V* infested! DO NOT LET EMETOPHOBIA COME BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR IDEAL JOB

    Melody,

On my web site I recount the Norwalk outbreak at the RCMP training center in Regina, Saskatchewan. Someone told me that they've had another outbreak there since that one. You weren't in training there during one of those, were you?

I've often wondered how many emets go into lines of work where they have to deal with vomit. I mention a bunch in my FAQ but law enforcement is not one of them.

    Doug
