Well, I just got back from dinner, but afterwards I was told that
someone at a table near us threw up into his hands and then went for a
trash can! I read in that Vomiting FAQ that 90% of the patrons of that
restaurant sitting at the same table as the vomiter fell ill within
three days! Now I am totally afraid to the point where I feel positive
    I will get norovirus.

I didn't see the vomiter, and I couldn't get specifics as to where I
was in relation to him when it happened or if I was eating, so I am
very afraid. Does anyone know how much at risk I am?

    Hi,
I would think that if you were not actually at that table then you are pretty safe. But to be on the real safe side, I would take vitamins, eat healthy food, and also take echinacea, if you'd like. It is supposed to boost your immune system. Try not to get too nervous about it.

Grossness coming up, but could you smell anything? I would guess
that in order for it to be in the air enough for it to be transmitted to
you you'd at least be able to smell it.

That said, that person could have v*d for any number of reasons,
least of all a sv. Think about it - if you were feeling like you were
coming down with a sv the last place you'd go is out to eat. The
thought of the smells of food would send most anyone over the edge.
The person probably either had too much to drink and became ill
from that, or tried a new food that grossed them out to the point of
v*. Maybe they tried snails or something for the first time and the
thought of "I'm eating snails" made them v*. Maybe they've had a
cold and lots of mucus drainage, and a heavy meal just didn't set
right on an already upset tummy.

You weren't near enough to even realize it had happened. You didn't
kiss, share food, or utensils with them. As long as you washed your
hands before you ate and if you used the restroom there I'm sure
you'll be just fine. I know you'll still worry for the next few days, but
try not to. You're gonna be fine!

Maybe it was a pregnant womanm who grossed out from the food?? Or a drunk person? I seriously doubt you'll get sick.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I went to the derm about a month ago. When I walked in, I smelled vomit right away. I didn't panic or anything. When I went to sign in, I noticed a huge stain below me that looked like it was just cleaned up. I had no choice but to step on it. It also led all the way to the door. I don't know what happened in there that day, but you would think they would use air freshener or something. I was in there the other day and the smell was finally gone. That one day was horrible though. I couldn't wait for them to call my name b/c I couldn't stand the smell anymore. I was fine though. You will be fine. Don't worry.

Thanks you guys; you've all made me feel much better. I don't get SV*s
often (my longest streak was seven years without one) but I hate these
    new conditions I'm in.

Maybe the person was choking on some food, and then v*ed. Don't get to worried about it, if they were well enough to be out in a restaurant, then chances are they did not have a SV. Even if it came on suddenly, I don't think they would have v*ed at the table.

I had a friend who was out to dinner and someone at the table told them a joke which she found so funny. She said she laughed so hard that she v*** right at the table and then ran to the bathroom.

I am not saying it was the same type of thing, but it was probably not a sv.
