Hi, i was just wondering if anyone else felt the same as me, i think one
reason that i have emetophobia is because i don't get sick (literally) often,
and so dread it even more. I always get panicky when i feel sick, and
breathe really deeply and make other people convince me im not going to
be sick... and reading some of the boards shows me that other people
need this reassurance too, that's one of the most important things to me
when i feel ill, i need someone to tell me im not going to be, and it helps.
if someone goes "ooh you look a bit pale" that is possibly the worst
thing they could do and even if i feel fine, i then start to feel nauseous.
iv'e been on holiday with my family twice now where every single one of
them gets ill (2 parents, 2 siblings) and i don't, which in turn makes me
get all hypochondriac and think im getting ill too, but i didn't. So yeah,
my point was, i think i have a pretty strong stomach so it makes me dread
being ill more so than people who get sick often, just wondering if
anyone else felt the same!

I'm the same - it's a fear of the "unknown" to me as it's also a rare thing. But then I am so careful with washing my hands and things as a preventative.

I also hate it when I get told I look a little pale or off colour.

I've been on a boat on the Great Barrier Reef after a cyclone hit so it was pretty rough and I was one of the only ones not unwell - admittedly the only way I got through it was to sleep as I couldn't cope with everyone around me looking green around the gills. But I was fine - my mum, aunt and grandma can be ill in the harcour on boats so I was very proud of myself on that trip!

when one of my family is ill) because it makes me wonder whether or not i
should have kids, i know i'm going to be rubbish when they get ill. im only
19 so i dont really need to worry for like another 10 years but i cant help
thinking im going to be a crap mum

I think that when anyone is told they look pale or "not good", that it is some subconscious thingand thenthey don't feel well. Last night I was very anxious, the worst I've been in years, and I looked in the mirror and I looked pale. That made me feel worse. I had to take something to calm me down, plus gravol. I am like you, I always have that anxious feeling and I think it's going to lead to n*. Yesterday when this was going on, I needed this site, but I couldn't log on. That didn't help. I was forced to tell DH how I felt, and he reassured me that I would be ok. It's the not knowing that is so bad.

I have a very good stomach for fighting bacteria according to my doctor. Because I was getting horriffic reflux, he suggested stop eating after 5pm. Never got it again but the acidity of my stomach is so high that food is digested a lot quicker. It's also the cause for the weird "gurrrrgle" sound, which doesn't bother me.Edited by: jay_rough

I think that I have a pretty strong stomach. I mean if you count all the times I've been N* compared to all the times when I've actually V*ed it's like NO comparison. Also seeing gross things never make me sick. Well sometimes I feel a little woozy depending on how graphic it is but I've never V*ed from something I've seen that was gross. Although I do remember this once movie, Hellraiser, where at the end this guy gets ripped apart and it was so gory I had to turn it off cause it made me N* but that's about the only time. Anyway I'm rambling.

I have a really strong stomach too. I don't get any kind of motionsickness or anything, but I get so anxious that sometimes I get nauseous and i think I might b e carsick or whatever, but I kow it's all anxiety.

I think I do. I've always thought so. I can watch gross things, like surgeries on TV, gross movies, etc. V is about my only weakness. I hardly ever am nauseated, don't get motion sickness, most foods don't bother me. This has probably only fed my emet.

I don't consider myself as someone with a strong stomach. I get easily grossed out and almost ANYTHING can make my stomach turn cartwheels. I have never been one to catch SV's very easily, EVER, and I never V* much growing up. I cannot handle spicy foods and my stomach is very picky as to what it will allow... so I consider my stomach fairly weak, because it just doesn't tolerate much (I get D* very easily!!!).

i think maybe having a strong stomach means something different to
different people, to me it means i dont throw up much, unlike my stepdad,
whos always getting stomach bugs, so he has a weak stomach. i didnt mean
anything to do with watching tv or stuff like that. if you dont get sv very
much purpleteacher, to me that would mean you have a strong stomach!

Hi Libbie, I just wanted to tell you that I totally agree w/ you on the reassuring thing! My boyfriend reassures me most of the time I start to panic by telling me that I'm fine and nothing is going to happen. Usually if I'm freaking out for awhile he'll be like, "If you were going to get sick it would of already happened, so just chill out" And that usually calms me down. I do wish that I had like an emet friend that lived close or some one that I could call for support b/c I know that my boyfriend has to get annoyed w/ me constantly needing him to reassure me. Ya know?

I know what you mean, my boyfriend is really understanding and completely
brilliant about it, but my mum and stepdad just think im being selfish, and i
end up feeling that i am even though i can't help it! it also doesnt help living
in halls at uni where people are always getting sick and i have nowhere to
escape! havent found an emet friend yet either!

Aw, I don't think you are being selfish. Its hard for people to understand what we are really feeling and what is going through our heads. I haven't actually gotten sick in a long time and I think that is the worst part forme too. The last time I did it was HORRIBLE.I mean, I seriously thought I was going to die. I just feel like everyday is a waiting game. Is today going to be the day??? AHHH! Its driving me crazy. I've read on here about people going like 20 some years w/ out getting sick. I hope that I'm as lucky as them! hahaha! If you ever wanna write me or something my email is [email protected].
