We always buy ground beef at Costco. It comes in about 6 pound packages, then we split it up into 1 pound freezer bags. We did this about a week or so ago, and the night we bought it my husband made spaghetti and put meat in the sauce. I am usualy the one who cooks, but I told him it tasted a little funny and asked what he put in it. He said just salt and pepper so I thought maybe he put too much pepper in it. I wasn't that hungry so I didn't eat much of it. He ate it and I can't really remember how he felt after. His stomach is really sensative, so he feels bad a lot of times after he eats, especially red sauce.

Anyways, I used some of the meat again in something a few days ago, but again the proportion of meat was relatively small compared to the meal. Last night we grilled cheeseburgers, and I noticed again that it just didn't taste quite right. They were cooked all the way through, but something just tasted funny. I ate about half of mine and my husband ate his entire one plus part of what was left of mine. A couple hours later, he started not feeling very well. He was really gassy (and it was the really smelly rotten-egg kind - unfortunately I walked by at the wrong time) and he also said he was burping and it tasted really bad. He took some Zantac, thinking it was indigestion and went to bed.

He slept through the night, but I just talked to him and he said he had d* a couple of times already this morning, and actually hung up with me to go again. I think he actually feels better than last night (he was eating some cereal and sounded okay) other than the d*.

I didn't have either the gas or the burping last night. I did have to go #2, but since I've been pregnant, I have been constipated and irregular and I thought I just had to go really bad. It wasn't d*, but I felt kind of crampy afterwards until I fell asleep. I was doing okay this morning until my husband told me about his d*. Since then, I have had to go to the bathroom again, but still no d* for me.

Do you think it was the meat that caused this for my husband? If so, would I have already had the same symptoms if I were going to get it? If he were going to v*, do you think he would have already? It's been 15 or 16 hours since we ate it. We have already decided to throw the rest of the meat out just in case. Mine problems right now are probably anxiety related. But, should I be worried? Could it still happen? If it is just a little d* I could handle it, but I am scared it is full blown food poisoning!

It's possible you both have a touch of food poisoning. I would toss the rest of the meat that came from that package. I think if you were going to be sick, it would have happened by now. The fact that he has d* proves the food has been digested and is on the way out. Toss the meat, and you will be fine. I hope he feels better.

I think that if the meat were really bad you wouldhave smelled it first. Take it from me, I smell everything whether I am cooking it or not (tomatoes, lettuce, milk, bread!!!!!!!! but especially meat)and if its bad it smells baaaaaadddd or can be a funny colour. If it didnt smell or look badbut just tasted a bit funnyit may be just "on the turn".

I know if it were me and I ate the meat a second time I would be convinced it tasted funny even if it was perfectlyalright!! I would (for peace of mind) get rid of thr rest of it, otherwise you'll just worry.

I am sure you will be absolutely fine and try not to stress about this cos you know that will cause problems (if you know what I mean!!!)

It could also be that it tasted funny to you because you are pregnant. I know that a lot of my friends say that certain foods tasted different while they were pregnant- that they couldn't eat some of their favourite foods because they didn't taste quite right, but other stuff that they never ate before tasted really good.

If it was food poisoning, you would probably be sick by now. The most common forms usually occur a few hours after the offending product has been consumed.

I just calle dmy husband again to see how he was doing. He sounded kind of weird, like he was only half paying attention to me. Sometimes he does this when he is playing a computer game or something and I "disturb" him. I asked him what he was doing any he said "nothing." I even aske dif he was playing on the computer and he said no. Then he got really crabby, practically bit my head off, said a really short goodbye and hung up. I don't know if he feels worse than he is telling me. He knows that it is worse for my phobia to hide things from me, so I would think he would tell me, but who knows. I hate worrying and wondering like this!

I know when I've had d* for awhile, I get a little crabby to, it also upsets my tummy, even though I don't feel like i'm going to v*, I sometimes get those weird crampy feelings and I can hear my intestines making noises and stuff. If it was from the meat, which it probably was, you can relax a bit that it isn't a sv. How are you feeling?

Now I'm thinking it's not the meat. He just called me back to apologize, and he admitted that he isn't feeling good still. While we were talking he said he was really cold and went to turn up the heater. I said I thought he was sick because he never gets cold (I always turn the heater up and he complains that it is too hot). The he told me he thought he was going to go take a nap - again, something he never does. I said "see, you are sick," waiting for him to deny it and he said "maybe a little." He said he was a little n*, and he had d* a few times this morning. I asked if he felt like he needed to go again and he said he hoped not, but who knows. I hope he doesn't have a sv! I would rather have thought it was the meat! Now, I am dreading going home and having to be in the same house with him. I get off work in about 4 1/2 hours. Some of my coworkers ar egoing out for drinks after work. I can't drink of course, but I might go anyway just so I don't have to go home. Ugh! Now I have to go again. I hope it is just anxiety!

I feel for you. Yesterday my hubby calls me at work to tell me he's been v* all day. I went into instant panick mode, called my mom and asked if I could stay with her. She of course said yes, we then debated on if it was a sv or just his migraine headache. Since he didn't have a fever, we concluded it was just the migraine, but needless to say, even though I've spoken to him TONS of times today, I won't be going home until tomorrow evening. I figured it would be better, just in case. Does you hubby think he has a fever? It could still be the meat. Having d* can upset the stomach w/ nausea, so it's still possible this is all a reaction from the meat. Do you have any family you could stay with instead of going home?

Ok well the positives if it is an sv is he isn't v*ing...and you said he has a bit of a weak stomach so if he isn't v*ing then if you go tit you would prob just have some d* too! Also, it could be a cold or flu...I get d* when I have a cold or flu and th ebeginning symptoms for me are sometimes feeling off, d* and chills so I think your ok! Just keep a check on him and see if just in case you have somewhere to go?

He still hasn't v*d but he says he feels like he could. I don't know if he has had any more d* either. He just said that it feels like some thing is sitting really heavy in his stomach. The same as last night. Really, no change in almost 24 hours now. All he has eaten today is a small bowl of cereal this morning. He is still burping up the nasty taste like last night. It sounds kind of like indigestion, but why would it last this long? He took Zantac last night and this morning and it didn't help either time so it probably isn't indigestion. Would a sv be like this? Would he just have this heavy feeling in his stomach? I asked him if I should come home and he said yes, that he wasn't going to v*. But, he said if it wasn't for me, he would have made himself v* to feel better.

Am I going to get this? I am getting really nervous now. It doesn't sound like a sv or bad food to me any more. If it was bad food, I would think it would have been through him by now. And he doesn't seem as sick as he was last time he had a full blown sv. I am wondering now if he does (or did this morning) have a fever since he was so cold and had to turn the heater up. He didn't take his temperature though so I don't know for sure. My stomach doesn't feel good now. I am scared it is a sv and I am starting to get it. All I had for lunch was some chicken noodle soup, but I did feel hungry at the time. Now I just feel sick. I really hope I am not getting it!Edited by: sillygirl

I've had that exact sort of thing before. Although it lasted me only about 8 hours, I v* nonstop but I had it again not too long ago with no V* at all. Ugh the rotton egg burp is scary for me, sends me into a panic attack.

Still, if he's only had d* and had the burp for about 8 hours and not v*, he should be fine.

I'm not sure 100% what this is though, I can't find the sulphur-burp symptom anywhere. Quite a few people suggested it was Gastroenteritis.

As most people suggested, it could be mild food poisoning, if it lasts more than a couple of days, it could be Salmonella or something. I recognize the heavy feeling in the stomach. But I doubt he will v* and hope he won't.

As for you, I wish you the absolute best, I don't think you will get it. No-one around me caught it when I got sick, but I'm a typhoid carrier now , although that's because I had Salmonella right after it.

Tell him to drink as much as he can, eat light amounts of food, and soon the burp should disappear, signalling the end of the virus/disease, whatever it may be.Edited by: jay_rough

He told me that if it wasn't for me and my phobia he would have v*d, but he didn't let himself because he knew how upset it would make me. By the time I got home from work yesterday he said he was feeling a little better. I bought him some Gatorade and he drank that. Then I made him some plain white rice for dinner and he ate all of that. Before we went to bed he decided he wanted some ice cream. I scooped him a littl ebit of plain vanilla, but then he added cut up strawberries and some angel food cake on top of it. I never heard him get up in the middle of the night so I assume it stayed down okay. He wasn't pale at all like he normally gets when he is really sick. I am hoping it was just the food and his sensative stomach and it just took a while for things to pass through. I feel okay so I think as long as it was just the meat I will be fine. I'm still going to have to start the countdown, just in case it was a sv though!
