ok so my daughter has been waking up so far tonight complaining that her belly hurt. she's only 2 1/2 so she can't really describe in detail what kind of pain it is. the thing that scares me is that the last time she woke up and said her belly hurt, it was the beginning of a 5 day sv* where all she did was v* everyday. now i'm literally shaking and terrified to go near her because i'm afraid she's going to get sick. i never ever share any food or drinks with her but today we went to the store and i bought a soda and i forgot to get her a drink, so i let her have a sip of my soda and then i drank out of it again! so now on top of me being afraid of her being sick, i'm terrified that I'M going to get it! please, someone tell me anything to help calm me down. i'm a nervous wreck.my hands are sweating so much it's making it hard to type. she seemed fine earlier? not as energetic as she is every other day, but she also skipped a nap today so hopefully she was just tired. i'm praying that what she has is just gas or hunger pains and not another sv*. anyone have any advice that will help calm me down?! please.. anything will do.

The last sv my kid got, I shared a drink with her the night before, and I didn't catch it. But I freaked out, too. It could be nothing. She could have gas. Just think positive, and I KNOW how hard that is. Sending you hugs.

I agree with Jodie. Kids this young can't fight nausea and I would have expected her to have v* by now if it was going to happen. I know how scared you must be but try and get prepared, just incase; towels down, a bowl ready etc., this will help you gain a little control over this. Just to repeat my first point though, I think it would have happened by now.

Is it possible she could have a sore throat? Children this young can't determine the source of pain and many children feel stomach pain when they have a bad throat, a headache even. Don't assume this is an intestinal probelm.

And the drink thing? Don't worry, I do this all the time with my kids, and I've almost always done it a few hours before they threw up. I've never caught anything from them so I think you're safe on this one.

Hope the night goes well for you.

Isn't that always how it goes... The second you let your guard down (share a drink with her), she wakes up and tells you her tummy hurts.. (this kinda stuff always happens to me anyway).
Like everyone else has said, there are many reasons for which her tummy might hurt. Try very hard not to let yourself get too worked up over it. Why worry when there is nothing yet to worry about? We are all here if you need us. Try to relax.

thank you allso much. well i ended up going to bed around 1:00 am and she managed to sleep well after that, only waking up once because she dropped her "binky" out of the crib. i thought i was in the clear zone until she woke up this morning and continued saying how her belly hurt. now i'm REALLY confused because she hasn't pooped and THANK GOD hasn't v* (yet, hopefully she won't). but i'm not sure what to do for her because i don't know if maybe she's just hungry, or maybe she has gas, or maybe she does have a sv* that just didn't show any signs yet. the comments about not getting the sv's after sharing drinks with your children REALLY helped a lot though because i think with my phobia, i'm more afraid to v* myself than i am of someone else. i just don't understand because she just had a rotovirus a little over a month ago and that lasted for 5 full days. i was kind of hoping that i wouldn't have to worry about another one for quite some time but i guess with kids, you never know. now i'm just scared because i'm home by myself with her all day and if she gets sick i don't know what i will do! do you think i should take her to the doctors to get her throat checked? she has a little cough but nothing major at all. she coughed a little bit this morning, but not since. i just would hate to take her to the doctors and expose her to more germs if it's not necessary. any opinions? thank you again for your help.

I think you should give it a few more hours and see how it goes. I know the waiting is really hard and its difficult to focus on anything else, but might be weird taking her to the doctor and then saying she's saying she's got a sore belly but I think its actually her throat.. is there a chance she would be touching her neck area or showing you in her mouth if her throat was sore?

You say she hasn't done a Number 2 yet.. maybe she's a bit constipated? it could be a bit of a build up thats hurting her tummy?

I know that this is always easier to say to someone else than to apply to ourselves, but maybe just ask yourself 'whats the worst that will come of it if she IS sick? whats the worst that can happen to her or I? There is no ACTUAL danger or threat to any of us, aside from her body ridding itself of something toxic/harmful. It WILL come to an end and you WILL calm down. Whatever happens you do have what it takes to handle it. even if right now you feel you cant.

Anyway let us know the outcome, I hope all is okay for you though!

I shared food with my mother a day before she got a bad sv*. I tend to think that emets are fairly resistant in terms of catching that type of illness. If she can't articulate what she is feeling, I definitely know that is scary, but it really could be anything. Has anyone around you been ill? If she has a cough, it could be possible that she is a little phlegmy and that is bothering her stomach.

well i just noticed that her nose is running a bit. maybe she has allergies or she's beginning to get a cold. i'm not too sure, there are SO many things it could be. she seems a little better now, but i don't want to jinx it! i'm hoping this will all pass soon. she has had quite a few colds in her life and they never seemed to affect her stomach before so i'm still not sure what that's about. i think this is bothering me more than her. thank you for all the reassurance, i REALLY REALLY needed it. i will keep you posted on how she is doing. thanks again.

    Laurend -

You said in your previous post that she hadn't pooped. Maybe she's constipated - that can make your stomach hurt. How long has it been since she had a bowel movement?

Laurend-how long has it been since she complained of her tummy hurting? It could be cause she is constipated. Also could be just a sv* that gives you tummy pains and that is it. My kids had that going around 2 years ago. Tummy pain and nothing else. Let us know how she is doing.

The first thing I check when my little one tells me her tummy hurts is her throat. And 9 out of 10 times she has a tummy ache b/c of something going on in her throat or sinus.(knock on wood)Did you get the rotavirus last time she had it?
