My coworker that went home yesterday because she thought she had food poisoning is back today. I had to go talk to her about a work issue and I asked her if she still felt sick. She said yes, that she almost didn't come in today but she has too much to do. Now she says she isn't sure if it is fp or a sv. AHHH!!!! Why did she have to come in and contaminate the rest of the office??? When I talked to her, I never astually went in to her office. I stayed a few feet outside the door anddidn't touch anything. We have our own phones, but I am still worried about fax machines, door handles, etc. I refuse to use the restroom at work today again. Is there any way I can avoid this? I would go home myself if I could, but I have to save all of the time I can for after the baby is born. What do I do??

Why did she have to come to work? Because she has an overinflated belief in her worth in the workplace. This is the behavior that scares the living s**t out of me when the Bird Flu, or whatever the next pandemic is, occurs.

As far as keeping yourself healthy, try to remember that you touch things all the time that other "sick" people have touched. You are keenly aware of her illness because she has shared all the grizzlies with you. Just keep your hands away from your face, wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizer.

    You should be fine.

She has to walk right in front of me everytime she goes to the bathroom. So far I have only seen her leave once, and she wasn't in a huge hurry so hopefully she didn't go to v*. If it were fp, would she still feel bad like this? Don't most people feel better quicker with fp? I am really surprised that she came in with this. She always stays home when she has a cold. Why come in with a sv? If I have to catch something from her I would rather have a cold! I am so tempted to ask my doctor to put me back on bedrest just to get away from here.I just can't handle this right now.

I'm so sorry, I would feel the same as you. If it were fp, she very well may still feel bad. It just depends on the type and severity, and her health. SO many factors. Just keep taking usual precautions.

Hey, im really sorry your feeling like this, yeah i think it depends on the type of fp it is, i remember when my mum got fp really bad with eating fish from her work and 3 people got it, one ended up in hospital from dehydration, my mum was just very ill and she said it felt like someone had run her over the next day, so i think some types of fp take different times to clear up. Just make sure you keep your hands washed and that you don't put your hands near your face. Hope your ok.

Well, she just left again. She was here for maybe about 2 hours today. She mainly just stayed in her office, but I did see her leave to go to the bathroom (I am guessing) at least once. I never saw her leave for the day, though, so I could have missed some other times she left. I haven't used the restrooms here at work and I haven't eaten anything with my bare hands (and even then I used hand sanitizer). I have randomly used hand sanitizer throughout the day. I am trying not to touch my face although I do have a bad habit of doing it. Do you think I am safe? I know sv aren't airborne except while someone is v*, but I am still afraid I picked something up just by breathing. I really wish she had just stayed home! She came in feeling sick both yesterday and today. Why?? Stay home, feel better, and don't get the rest of us sick!!

I hate that when sick people do that!! My husband and I argue about it, he thinks you should get your job done no matter what, that work is more important. Ridiculous. Health is more important!

I was so upset yesterday when my hubby's tries to call in sick and our boss told him he has to come in cause they have no coverage, can you believe this!!..this is a well known hotel chain!!.....non-emets don't think about passing around viruses, and bosses just think about having their asses covered!!

Guys you've got to remember that non-emets have different priorities to us. They place importance on a number of other things that we find trivial or of less importance than staying healthy.

Emets are constantly on guard and on the look out for any sign of 'danger' so what we see as being careless or thoughtless on there behalf is just a normal way of behaving for them!

Very frustrating I know. It would be better if the WHOLE WORLD were Emets then they would all be considerate and things wouldn't spread like they do hey!!

I have had experiences with bosses that believe you should come in, no matter what. In this case though, my company is pretty understanding and would rather have the person stay home and feel better. We all kept telling this person to go home and feel better. She is actually in a pretty high up position, so I know it was not her boss that made her come in. It was all because she wanted to. She actually ended up taking her laptop and files home and I have been getting emails from her all day. I think she should be taking it easy, but if she feels she needs to work from home, at least she isn't here!

I think not infecting others should be a priority to anyone whether they're an emet or not. So not everyone is as traumatized by a sv as we are, but no one wants it. To me, trying not to pass your germs to other is just common courtesy. I'd be worried and mad at her for coming in too.
