I just happened to come across this and thougt you might be interested:

    FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES OF YOGURT

The well-known health benefits of eating yogurt are the following:
    • Enhanced lactose digestion,
    • Prevention/treatment of acute rotavirus and antibiotic-induced diarrheas,
    • Stimulation of intestinal immunity,
    • Stabilization of Crohn’s disease,
    • Improving the balance of microbial population in the intestines,
    • Activity against Helicobacter Pylori,
    • Improved immunity to disease,
    • Inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria. Yogurt’s fermenting agents produce some bacteriocins which, combined with their acidity, prove beneficial for the intestinal flora,
    • Improving intestinal transit.

Darn! Now I have to eat that yogurt that's been sitting in my fridge. I
look at it everyday and think- I really should eat that before it expires.

haha Lisa i do the same thing! my mom keeps buying it and no body eats it! i look at it every morning and then say, "nah, tomorrow!" i think i'm going to start though. i usually eat cheese for breakfast, and lunch, and dinner lol so i guess i should replace a meal with something that will actually be beneficial to my health!

oooh how can anyone hate yogurt? its soooo good!

you can get ones that are almost dessert like now very rich and creamy and Mmm Mmm good. I hear they are good for helping you loose weight too ( as long as you get the low calorie kind). my favorite are the vanilla ones. yumm.

Ohh, I looove yogurt, but can't eat it right now for some reason. I do take a liquid acidophilus supplement daily, which should have some of those good effects.

I started eating a cup of yoghurt daily a few weeks ago. I am lactose intolerant, but it hasn't bothered me. And it's helped stabilize my IBS a bit!!!!

I'm a bit confused. You say that yogurt prevents rotavirus. Is rotavirus the same thing as the winter vomiting disease? Is it "The stomach bug"? I thought the stomach virus was called calicivirus or norovirus and I also thought that the rotavirus was a regular flu, same thing as the bei jing flu. Does anyone know? Does yogurt prevent stomach bugs or just regular flues?

I'm pretty sure that calciviruses have been renamed as noroviruses by the science and medical community.

Rotavirus is another gastrointestinal virus that causes severe diarrhea in small children.

Is Activia yogurt any different from any other yogurt? More probiotics, perhaps?
Is taking a good acidophilus supplement just as effective? Edited by: daffodil

The regular flu is caused by influenza viruses. Rotaviruses are stomach viruses but they usually aren't as bad as noroviruses (in that they cause d* more often than they do v*ing, and when they do cause v*ing it isn't usually as sudden and violent). Winter vomiting disease is caused by noroviruses.
