    Hi everyone -

I am not new to this wonderful site, but I don't usually post - mostly just like not feeling alone. I was elated to find that there was a name for my craziness and there were many others who felt the same way I do everyday. Well anyway, I have decided to start therapy for this horrible phobia that rules my mind 90% of my day and my first session is tonight in 2 and a half hours. I didn't think I would feel so worried, but I am shaking at my desk now. I could barely tell the person over the phone what my phobia was. I have no idea if I'm even going to be able to talk to this person. I know I need to start somewhere, but all day I have just been thinking about how much of my time goes into protecting myself and keeping myself out of situations with possible v***ers, that it would take daysto tellhim everything. I have been nervous all day. I am just worriedthat if he isn't the right person to help me that I will have to tell someone else, and possible another! Ahhhhhhhh Why do we have to be like this. I hate it!!!I just needed to get that off my chest -Hopefully all goes well tonight. Thanks for listening LOL

    Welcome to the site Therese!

I am going for therapy and it is a bit hard at first to explain whats wrong, but you've gotta remember that this is their job and thats what they're there for..

They are trained to ask the right questions and get you to give the right information so that they know the best way to go about treating you. Even if they don't talk a lot specifically about Emet, they do understand and work with loads of phobic people daily, and know how phobic people's minds operate.

If your therapist is good he/she will do their best to make you feel calm and comfortable in their company.

Good luck hun, you will do just fine!

    Laney and Kimmy -

Thank you so much for your thoughts and reassuring words! It was so nice to hear. The appt. went very well and the therapist made me feel very comfortable. I was quite sweaty (lol) but I managed to get out all I needed to say to get my point across. It was actually really nice to tell someone about my thoughts and rituals and daily routines and have them be compassionate and understanding. People in my life are wonderful, but the few people who know about my phoba don't understand. My mom has been telling me since I was a child that when it is my own children who are sick I will be able to handle it......So they just don't really get it. Thanks again!!

    Hi Therese,

I'm glad it went well. I just wanted to point out, in case you haven't cruised around the site much, that there is excellent info and articles on the Treatments section at the top. There's info to give your family OR your therapist to help them understand the disorder. Also a section for therapists to use.
