I don't know if anyone else read Fast Food Nation by him, but I saw this morning on the Today show that Eric Schlosser wrote a book for kids called Chew On This, which deals also with the subjects in Fast Food Nation (meat packing and the fast food industry). I thought this was a really cool idea. I can't wait to get this book for my daughter to read. It's focus is children age 9-14 if anyone is interested. He talked about how kids who are more likely to have weight problems throughout their life if they are overweight at the age of 13. They touched on soda's being taken out of schools and how Mc Donalds markets their crap food toward 14 month old kids, making the food seem most desirable because it comes with a toy.

Also, Fast Food Nation is being made into a fictional movie... Check it out. I cannot wait for this one.

awesome, i'm glad someone's finally stepping up & showing how the media's gearing awful stuff like that towards little kids. i'm on my mother's case all the time not to feed my little brothers crap like mcdonald's but she's a single mom so she considers it "easier"

as we speak, the local hospital in my city has a few researchers meeting with the executive director of my work (YMCA) to consider starting a program for their kids to help them lose weight & get out more. they're talking about cutting out tv & getting them to find a hobby or some kind of outlet. it doesn't neccessarily have to be sports because some kids aren't competitive, but something to get them moving at least.

ew, the thought of fast food makes me shiver now.

Cool, I think I should read that, having been one of this generation of kids to succumb to weight gain as a result of crappy food.
