My son woke half an hour ago, he was shaking, terrified, because he felt unwell - I'm convinced he is an emet now too. He had a bm, normal, no d*, and I managed to calm him down enough to go back to sleep. He said he felt a little better. I'm a so frightened, for us both, that he's going to wake again and actually v*. I can't stop shaking. I know alot of us get this, wake suddenly in a panic and think 'it' might happen, but he's 9 years old -so young.

It's going to be a long night, I hate this, not knowing if it's going to happen.

    Hey suze,

Im right here for you hun, Its good that you managed to calm him down..

could he have been over tired to make him feel a little unwell when he woke up?
Or the bowel movement could as well, I know some of mine do as well..

Try to relax hun,hes sleeping again at the moment, and hopefully that will be him out for the night..

anything you need, you know where I am

I think it can be very unsettling to wake from a dead sleep and have your tummy feel off. This happens to me sometimes, where I will wake and need to have a bm, and I think it can be from eating too close to bedtime. I'm sorry your son was scared. Could he have had a bad dream? Wishing you and yours a peaceful night!

Ohhh.....sorry that your son is feeling unwell- even sorrier that he seems to be developping emet-tendencies!

Could he be anxious about something, or possibly be having bad dreams (as Daffodil mentioned)? I know that if I wake up startled, or upset about something, I will likely not feel well either.

I hope that he isn't sick, and wakes up fine in the morning! I'll be on MSN if you need to chat.

Thanks Violet, Amber & Daffodil. Well, he's been sleeping for 2 1/2 hours now, but I still can't relax enough to sleep! He was certainly very tired tonight - he had a cricket game today, batted for close on 2 hours, then was wicket keeper for another 2 - so no time at all to switch off. He was also totally exhausted when he went to bed. I'm hoping this is what caused it.

As for the emet tendencies, yeah this scares me. I'll try and talk to him about it. My GF came over to calm me down and she said that alot of people feel frightened when they feel sick, but as long as he doesn't think about it all the time then he's probably just a normal kid who hates throwing up. Anyway, I'll talk to him and see what he says.

    Thanks again xx

I hope your son is feeling better now and that the reat of the night was peaceful for you both. It sounds like it could have been because your son was so tired after playing cricket. I hope all is well now.

Suze...i hope your little boy is ok. I know that must have frightened him as much as you. To wake up and have to go the bathroom out of a deep sleep probably scared him alittle...i know it would me too. Hopefully he will be fine and i hope that you got some sleep.

Thanks Kate and Sally for your support. Thankfully, nothing happened, I really think he just woke up suddenly, needed to go to the loo, and panicked. i managed to get to sleep eventually, about 3.30am, so I'm feeling worn out today. I'm not sure what's worse, waiting for it to happen, or dealing with it when it does. I really think the waiting is bad for me, I was in a real state!

    Anyway, thanks again to everyone!

Glad all is well Suze....I agree...the waiting is way worse than the actual event....at least i think so. Well, maybe you can get some rest today...try to take a nap anyway. take care

Suze - my 7 year-old daughter is definitely becoming emetophobic, and it's the most horrifying thing that's ever happened to me. If you want to chat offsite about it, I'd be happy to do so. Feel free to PM me.

It's been a nightmare but we have to remember that if we recognize it and get them help early, they're not doomed to a life of constant panic and misery.

She has other fears, too, lately, like tornadoes (i have no idea why) and safety of our house (i.e. are the doors locked?) but it's amazing how much easier I, as an emet mom, manage to deal with those fears than when she worries about being sick. It's a huge trigger for me, but strangely, it's been somewhat healing for me, as well, taking some of the focus off of my own neuroses. Does this make sense?
