emetophobia, and being female? The majority of this site, or at least, its posters, are women. I've only seen a few men here and there. Do you think there is a link, or do you think that women are able to speak about it more openly?

I don't know, but that's a good question...
I think so. I think many of my problems are from some kind of hormonal imbalance.

I'm not sure.. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just because women are more comfortable speaking about something they fear.
I'm with confusedgirl- I think men are less likely to speak about this fear because our patriarchal society dictates that if men admit to any flaws (that don't relate to temper or "macho-ness") they are somehow weak, or less of a man. It's rare that men speak to their emotional problems- for women, it's expected that we are "more emotional".
That, and this board is very female-oriented in terms of topics, so I find that men seem to come and go a lot more often then women.

Statisitcally speaking, women are much more prone to depressive and anxiety disorders, so I do believe in general women are afflicted more with phobias and anxiety disorders. I'm sure the gap would be smaller if more men came forward with their problems, but I still think there is a gap. I also think it has something to do with hormones, and also the role of women in society...we have quite a lot of pressure on us.
