I keep getting this problem where food comes up in my throat. Today I ate a chicken sandwich at lunch, and I swallowed the last bite. It felt like it went down slowly, so I took a big drink of OJ with it and swallowed hard, thinking it was okay.

Half an hour later, I feel a ball of chicken sandwich travelling slowly up my throat. It was so big and so far up that I couldn't swallow it back down, and when I finally did, I almost V*d. I couldn't talk or laugh or do anything without the risk of V*ing, and it was so weird, because I kept swallowing it down.. but the muscles in my throat kept pushing it back up.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to get it to stop? Its terrifying because the muscles just do this randomly!

That sounds really scary! I would ask a doctor about this.

I sometimes have problems eating certain foods like sandwiches and oven chips(fries), as occasionally they feel like they get stuck in my gullet and feel like they may come back up (they never have, but you tend to panic when you are an emet) - I have to drink some water to help it down. My dad suffers with the same thing but worse and even water doesn't help. My Grandpa (dad's dad) had this same thing but really bad and he actually used to have real problems eating a lot of things.

I'm not sure whether it's a similar thing you have experienced. Does it happen quite regularly? I would go and see your doctor - I think there are medications that help, my dad is on one (can't remember the name) and when he takes it has no problems at all with eating.

Is it like acid coming back up with it? like acid reflux. My suggestion is to see your doctor and also when you eat, cut your food into smaller pieces as it may digest easier? or take smaller bites and chew your food really well and see if that helps?.

well it takes me forever to eat because I make sure to chew really well, and I know its not acid because I can taste the acid when its reflux... this was an actual lump of bread and chicken (yuck!)

This used to happen to me when I was younger, when it would happen I would just freeze, even if i was in the middle of a conversation, and locate the door. I would just keep swallowing and swallowing. Drinking just a sip of water helped me because the chunk of food will block the water from going down so you dont want to take big gulps.

I can't really help but I know how you feel!

good luck to you, and keep swallowing!
