Lately I've been having major problems with my stomach - my doctor says
I've probably recently become allergic to something in my diet. Today,
I broke the rule of gradually adding things into my diet in order to
find the culprit... and sure enough, I felt n* as al hell tonight. I
came so close to v*ing, and I wanted to be okay with it so badly. For
the first time ever, I genuinely wanted to go through with it (result
of a conversation with a close friend). I kept telling mmyself how much
better I'd feel if I v*ed, because whatever was upsetting my stomach
    would be out.

In the end though, RIGHT before it was about to happen, I panicked
horribly, caved and took a Phenergan. And then pepto bismol. And then a
quarter of a dose of my perscribed valium to make the panic stop. :/
I'm feeling really frustrated and disappointed with myself right now.

So my question is: what is the best way to stay calm right before v*ing? </span>I
desperately want to be able to v* calmly... I haven't v*ed in years,
and I'm hoping that if I have a decent experience with it I"ll be okay
    with it.

    Greeneyes -

I'm not sure what you can do to calm yourself before you v*. I think if you find the answer to that question - we'd ALL love to know! You sound very brave though for wanting to go through with it. I fight it all the way - just like you did last night.

Did you find the culprit with the food?

I think deep breathing is the very best way to calm down.......nothing else really works for me.......anytime i am nauseas like that, i have to stay still and just breathe......and i will try to watch tv...but that doesn't always work for me....i wish i knew what to tell you....but that's all the advice i have.

Have you tried keeping a food diary and then having your doc check for food allergies, so you don't have to just eat and eat and eat until you eventually get sick? I mean, I think it is kind of cruel to just wait around until you find what is making you sick.

Has your doc ruled out anxiety related to your emet as the possible trigger for your nausea?

marby and purpleteacher - yes, anxiety has been ruled out. I just got
the results today for some labs and an ultrasound, and, well, it's no
wonder that I've been feeling sick. I have an ovarian cyst pressing up
in the direction of my intestinal area (no operation needed - they say
it should burst within a couple of days and drain itself). I also
tested positive for mono and borderline-positive for Celiac Sprue (an
allergy to gluten). Because I've been feeling sick due to the cyst and
the mono, pretty much all I've been eating is toast, which is just
aggravating the Celiac! Basically all I can do is wait this thing out.
In the meantime, no more toast for me. :/ <!--

Just a note - just because you've tested positive for mono doesn't mean that its showing symptoms.

Once you have the virus - which you could have picked up at any point in your lifetime - it stays in your system forever, and willshow positive on blood tests.

so, unless they told you that the mono virus is presently symptomatic vs asymptomatic, I wouldn't worry too much about it causing problems.

Glad they found the cystm thogh! feel better!

    Greeneyez,

You were not resigned to vomiting. You were still fighting it. I don't believe it was "about to happen." If it had, you would not have been able to counteract it by taking phenergan and Pepto-Bismol orally. The stomach wouldn't have been digesting at that point.

If you really had decided to let yourself vomit, the main thing you would have had to do was stop fighting it. At that point, bringing it on would have required only sharp, deep breaths. (I discuss this in my Vomiting FAQ. See the link below.)

Food allergies are not that difficult to identify. I don't think you were being as brave by taking all of those foods at once as you were reckless. Even if you had vomited, what would it have proved? You would still have had to repeat the process of adding foods gradually in order to identify the allergen.

Vomiting is not inevitable with a food allergy. You can get through this allergy and remain puke free. There is no need to challenge your emetophobia in order to get through this problem. You can eliminate the problem food from your diet, and you will have less anxiety about vomiting after you do. Then you can tackle your emetophobia later, when you do not feel the stress of the food allergy. Or you can decide to live with emetophobia, like most of us here do.
