ive been a vegetarian for7 years now, since i was 9, but my diet is really awful- its incredibly limited i eat the same thing day in day out and im scared to try new things, but my doctor and parents have said to me that i have to start eating meat again. Ive eaten a little chicken which was great but im still worried about eating it so i only eat it very occasionally and when i do i eat very little of it. Ive heard stories of people being vegetarians for years and when they eat meat again they throw up because their bodies aren't used to it or whatever reason.

So i was just wondering if any of you have been vegetarians for a long time and began eating meat again, and if so please tell me it was a good experience :P.

I have heard that too and I'm vegetarian. I have heard more problems with people eating red meat and the stomach problems though, rather than chicken. What about reintroducing meat products gradually? Like starting with chicken broth and then eating little bits of chicken or another meat mixed in with something, such as pasta with a little bit of meat sauce or something like that.

The veggie diet can be very varied and can be extremely healthy too, especially if you use soy products.

I'm a vegetarian and don't think I could ever go back to meat, it's just disgusting to me... but I've heard that some people can go back to meat and be fine. yeah as long as you make the transition slowly, it should be ok, it's people that don't eat meat for a long time and then have a huge serving of meat at a time that seem to have the problems. I have a pretty limited diet too... but there are lots of options for vegetarians! do you like tofu? There are so many ways to cook that... and I consider it a pretty safe food. It can be bland and comforting... you can season it if you want to, but its not necessary. also, maybe try a multi vitamin? or meat substitutes, they are usually made out of soy, and have a ton of protein. soy milk is good, beans are supposedly good (though I don't eat them...). I'm worried if your doctor is saying you need to eat meat again? Meat is not necessary, I wonder why your doctor is encouraging that.... and its ok to have a limited diet as far as I know, as long as you're getting all the necessary nutrients!

Here is my thinking... Just because you feel your diet is limited doesn't mean you have to add meat in order to make it more nutritous. Why not just use beans and tofu and lots of veggies? I am not a veggie, but I don't eat red meat and rarely eat chicken and I feel my diet has never been more healthy.

This story may help you though if you are wanting to eat meat again...

My aunt was a veggie for 15 years and pregnant with her second child when she became obsessed with fried chicken. She was dreaming about fried chicken. It is all she could think about. She asked her doctor what she should do since she was vegetarian at the time and didn't want to cause havoc to her digestive system. He told her to eat the damn chicken if she is thinking about it that much. So on her way home that day she stopped by (of all places, lol!) KFC and got a bucket of chicken. When her husband came home she was sitting in the living room with this bucket of chicken on the coffee table just chowing down. And she was completely fine. That is how she became non veggie. It's still weird for me when I see her and she's eating a burger. I'm just very used to her not being a meat eater. lol!

thanks for replies, i have no issues with eating meat again becuase i stopped eating meat when i was young as my mum was a vegetarian and i wanted to be like her so its not an issue for me to start again in that respect.

The problem with my diet is that it is limited, however i wouldnt eat beans and tofu which is one of the reasons I am not getting enough nutrition. Although I am a vegetarian, I do not have any vegetables in my diet to make up for the lack of protein etc.

Yeah ive heard experiences of people eating meat with no problems but i've heard of bad experiences also, but maybe it's just psychological?

    thank you!

    Hi Jezebel,

I was vegan for a few years and vegetarian for maybe 8, and I just started eating chicken again awhile ago. No stomach problems! I just reintroduced it gradually, with broth first and stuff. Good luck!
