Thread: Bad bacon?

    So right now Ive got some bacon sizzling in the pan. We've had it for a week, maybe a week and a half. I opened it last week to make some, then wrapped it back up and put it back in the fridge. This morning I took it out and it looked alright, but I couldn't tell if it smelled alright. I'm cooking some up now.

    My question: if the bacon smells normal while it's cooking (it smells reaaalll good right now) does that mean its alright to eat? Will the fact that it's been open in the fridge for a week make it bad?

    Hey, i think it should be ok? i mean i don't eat bacon so maybe im not the best person to ask lol. But normally it says on the packet, use by or once opended use within a certain amount of days?..so maybe it says on the packet..if it has a label on it?.

    Does it have an expiration date?


    My boyfriend keeps packages of bacon open in the fridge indefinitely, until he eats it. It's pretty easy to tell if it has gone south- will turn greenish and will smell like an unwashed butt.

    Haha, well, it definitely wasn't greenish, sort of a red brown (I guess natural bacon colors, but slightly... faded?), and I don't really know what bacon smells like raw, but it didn't smell like, "omg smells so bad I'm gonna be sick", it just smelled like meat?
    I checked the packet and there's no expiration date that I can find.
