I bought some drumstix (You know the kind of icecream that's already in a cone) last week and it was hot out, but I had to wait for the train to come and take me home. Anyway the icecream melted, but only enough to make the cone soggy. I've had them in the freezer for a few days, and I was wondering if they are okay to eat or if I should throw them away. I don't want to get sick or anything.

Dude, you don't know how many times I have walked home from the grocery store with half-melted ice cream and then shoveled it in the fridge to re-freeze it. Trust me- it will not have gone sour. That, and people need to remember that even dairy gone bad is not guaranteed to make you sick. Sour milk is used in recipes, not to mention that my dad eats expired yogurt regularly

Also, products like drumstick-brand icecream cones are packed so full of preservatives that I doubt much can be done to them to make them likely to cause illness (you know, other that obesity and sugar shock, lol)

It will be fine! I would eat it. I've done it so many times...plus, as Amber said, there's so many preservatives in those things that it's got to be really beat up to cause any sort of illness. Enjoy your ice cream!

I think the ice cream has to be at room temperature for like 2 hours, THEN refrozen in order to be harmful. Everybody brings frozen stuff home that partly thaws and then puts it in the freezer...it should be ok.

Q)Can I refreeze melted ice cream? Is it safe to eat ice cream after it has melted and then been refrozen?

A)No, it is not recommended to eat thawed ice cream. Ice cream is a perishable food product that needs to be kept frozen. If it was left at room temperature for longer than two hours and/or thawed in a freezer that lost power it may have spoiled and/or may harbour microorganisms that cause foodborne illness. Also the taste and texture of the ice cream after refreezing may not be palatable.

i always open one of those small sainsburys taste the difference tubs one night, eat as much as i can - but always waiting for it to melt a bit and then putting it back in the freezer only to eat the other half the next night, or whenever i fancy it. I've always been alright.

Thanks, sweet. Luckily my memory was right. So the point is - ROOM TEMPERATURE and 2 HOURS. Slight melting is fine!

I actually spent one of the worst emet nights of my life (v*ed all night every half houror so) because of my granny making homemade ice cream, keeping it in the freezer, microwaving it and then refreezing it over and over again. An ice cream going a bit soggy and the bwing frozen again is fine but if its been thawed and frozen a few times its just going to cool down and warm up all those lovely germs...
