I am leaving for vacation in Cancun, Mexico next week (Thursday). This will be my first trip out of the U.S. I have only flown once to Florida which is about 1.5 hour flight from NC. The flight to Cancun is about 2.5-3 hours. Of course, I have the usual emet fears--me or someone else getting sick. I did fine on my trip to Florida--I felt a bit queasy but I think that was more from nerves than anything else. I have my CD player to drown out any "noise" I may hear on the plane.
My main question is: What medication should I take (and how much) before I get on the plane. I have Ativan which I only use occasionally. I usually take 1/2 tab (very low dose). If I take a whole tab, I get pretty drowsy and feel the effects for a while. I know I'll be extra anxious (and excited) that day, but I do not want to be where I cannot enjoy my first day in Cancun when we get there. I don't want to get down there and just sleep because I'm too drugged up to do anything else. I have also considered taking Phenergan (just in case) but even 1/2 tab makes me pretty drowsy for a while. I know that Ativan has some anti-emetic properties, so maybe that would be enough. Or maybe I could take 1/2 Ativan and possibly 1/2 non-drowsy Dramamine. Oh, I don't know!
I need help! I don't want to be anxious or feel sick, but at the same time, I really don't want to be drowsy either! I am so excited about this trip and I am determined to NOT let my emet take control and keep me from having fun. I plan on going on a boat to snorkel while I'm there and I'm not going to let emet stand in my way of that either. So, this trip is all about FUN for me--with no emet worries!
Jess
