Hello! I'm Sophie, a 20 year old student and emetophobia sufferer. I have had this phobia for as long as I can remember but I was only diagnosed in 2010 (along with a few other issues), which made my weird little ways make sense! When I was diagnosed, I was going through a very bad patch and couldn't go out of the house, was having panic attacks daily and my whole life revolved around vomit. After being put on anti-depressants and having lots of hypno-therapy and the support of my boyfriend and Mother I made a pretty good recovery. However, the fear was all still there and to this day I still cannot be sick or have anything to do with it without feeling sheer terror. When I say I made a good recovery, I mean that I regained big parts of my life back again - I could eat out, I could drink alcohol, I could go out of the house without a panic attack and I even worked in a supermarket, which believe me, if you have a fear of germs etc., never get a job there! I stayed off this site as it sometimes bought my fear back to life. Anyway, to cut a long story short I am back to square one. I can no longer go out of the house, I am having panic attacks and am generally terrified of everything. I've left my job and taken time off from my studies. I'm on new medication which blocks the panic attacks somewhat and I have anti-emetics which ease my mind a little. So for now I am on the road to recovery AGAIN and will begin therapy and hopefully beat this pathetic phobia and regain my life back.
