HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN ANY EMET BOOKS? LIKE STORIES OF PEOPLE WITH EMET.? I
HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTO PSYCHOLOGY, AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FACINATED BY
DISORDERS LIKE TOURETTES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
I WAS JUST READING A BOOK CALLED "PASSING FOR NORMAL" BY AMY WILLENSKY. ITS BASICALLY ABOUT HER LIFE WITH TOURETTES AND OCD.
I COULDNT CONCENTRATE BECAUSE I WANTED TO WRITE. SO I STARTED TO WRITE. I THINK IM GONNA TRY TO WRITE ABOUT ASBOUT EMETOPHOBIA.
THIS IS ALL FOR YOU GUYS :)</span>
WISH ME LUCK, IVE GOT 3 SINGLE SPACED PAGES RIGHT NOW ON MICRO WORD. IM
ON A ROLL. JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD
IDEA. AND IF MAYBE ANYONE WANTED TO BE A PART OF IT. I THINK THAT IT
COULD HELP ALL OF US IF WE GET INFORMATION OUT THERE ABOUT IT. I DONT
THINK THERES ENOUGH INFO OUT THERE. MAYBE IF WE SHARE OUR STORIES,
WE'LL HELP OURSELVES AND OTHERS, WHO ARE STILL IN THE "IM CRAZY AND THE
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD WHOS AFRAID OF V*" STAGE.
I KNOW A LOT OF YOU HAVE READ "A CHILD CALLED IT". IM GONNA WRITE KINDA
LIKE THAT BOOK, LIKE RECAPPING HIS LIFE. OBVIOUSLY THIS ISNT AS EXTREME
AS HIS SITUATION, AND WE'RE MORE FORTUNATE THAN HIM. BUTTTT... THIS
STUPID PHOBIA CONTROLS OUR LIVES AT TIMES, AND KEEPS US FROM DOING
THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO BECAUSE WE'RE SCARED. MAYBE WE'LL BE ABLE TO
GET OVER IT. IM GONNA TRY TO WRITE A BOOK.
THANKS FOR LISTENING, IM JUST VERY INSPIRED RIGHT NOW. :) LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS

I'm a good proofreader, if ya need one! ;)
Oh, and there is this book called "My Thirteenth Winter"...it touches on emet....see theold post about it. I bought it and had this great idea about passing it around, but the first person I sent it to never sent it on. I may buy a new one and start again. I think it was a cool idea and other people did, too. I bought a notebook to go with it to write our thoughts about the book, etc....

That's a brilliant idea! I've always hunted around for books on emet and have never come across any.
Good luck!
-
About your wanting to write a book, I think it's a reallygood idea...I actually started writing, about pretty much anything, including emet, almost two months ago..and if everything I wrote were put on pages the size of an average paperback, I'd say it's around 70 pages. It's funny you said that, because I also would like to write a book. My therapist said it's a good idea, and also that it's good to write "it" when you are feeling "it", whatever "it" is. Good luck!!
-
you want to collaberate? :) we can each write, and make it a two part book from two emets :)
-
Hey I'm definately up to helping you out with that! PM me or E-mail me at [email protected]. You can also AIM me at: MareIsDeadToMe, OnForNow22, Or RomanosPrv8Nurse...I've be SO PSYCHED to help!

Great idea!
I did1 whole yearof research on emetophobia with my former therapist as we are going to write a book aimed at both lay people AND the psychotherapeutic community. It's on hold just now, however because I'm writing another book for my work that has to be at the publisher's by the end of this year (and it's taken me 2 years to write).
Margaret, who used to be on this site and sometimes returns wrote one in Dutch and just published it back in the spring.
So...go for it. The more info there is out there, the better.
-
yea im pretty excited. rather than gearing it towards research and
therapy, i want to personalize it. make it almost like an autobiography
of emetophobics, and their stories.. how they FEEL think and all that
stuff. i think it would help out a lot of in the closet emets:) dont
get me wrong, i am NOT saying there is anythign wrong with research
based writings on it. i would just rather write from my head, and have
other people share their experiences than do it based on facts.
im actually enjoying it very much, although i think if i ever did get
published, a lot of people who know me, and dont know a lot about my
emet will think im crazy - ive had other probalems besides emet, im
kinda nervous about that part of it.
sage, do you know how to get books published? or where i would go to
propose something? or show something? and what companies would be best
to show this to?
ps i wish i knew dutch so i could read the other book!:)

Starting cold turkey in getting your book published you go and look at
books simular to what you are writing. Mostly in simular style and close
to the same subjects such as other phobias or other mental disturbances.
These are the publishers that usually would be interested in your subject
and style of writing. Then there are books out there that will give you
guidelines step by step how to do a cover letter and prepare your
manuscript. At a bookstore like Borders should have a book that
describes as how to write and submit your writings. It's been a few years
since I've submitted anything so maybe things have changed but that's
what I know. I hope you success. Just try to commit to write a little bit
everyday. That's what I have to do with my art and then as it turns out I
usually work longer than planned. But to be totally honest lately I haven't
had the time especially since I saw the Dr. Phil show and found out there's
a name to what I've suffered with for I hate to say how long. You all sound
so young. It does get better. I've struggled with emet for 44 yrs. and have
many, many stories of failures and success.
All I can say after everything is said and done is, God is faithful :-D
-
i am an artist also, what kind of art do you like?
yes, i am young im only 21 but writing this has been really depressing
to me. i did a lot of crazy things as a young girl... i havenjt thought
about a lot of it in a really long time and its not makin me feel too
highly of myself thinking about it now. i have a hard time even
admitting this stuff, but i guess a way to get over it is to talk about
it or share it. i was a f*ed up child i guess, well my head was
anyway... but i guess it wsnt too bad cuz im a normal person now,
besides the emet, which im working on now. its just depressing thinking
about all that stuff. and i feel like people will think of me
differently if they read it....

Yes, I understand and forgot how hard things are when you are younger
and 1st facing some of the stuff from your childhood. I was fortunate
enough to have a sister for a sounding board through the years. She went
really wild in the early years and I love her with all my heart. She is my
best friend. We became christians and prayed through the years and seen
how real God is and how much He loves us all. My sister and I were both
abused by a father that was a police officer and he messed with our
heads...her more so physically on top of that. Anyway this is so so good
for you to be on this site and writing a book when you are ready to write
down certain things. It takes a lot of courage. So you are a courageous gal
: ) One thing I can tell you. I worried about the emet stuff so much in my
twenties to where i quit eating for a time. I used art for an escape, to go
to that fun place in my head. I have worked full time for many years for
churches doing illustrations for children's ministries, like coloring sheets,
activity sheets, crafts. Wrote and illustrated and got published 6 activity
books for kids and just illustrated a few others. I've been a graphic artist
for years and now oil painting again. Growing up I drew all the time to
escape my fear that started when I was 10 yrs. so you can do the math
and see...I am old : D I still get very nervous about contageous diseases.
I've had very little counseling but life seems to bring on the tests of
overcoming and going forward or backwards. I wish I have the
opportunities that you have at your fingertips now days. But it would take
more courage than I think I could muster up at your age so you are doing
very, very good facing your fears by posting and reading about this awful
phobia!
God Bless, a

im so sorry to hear that your father did that to you :( its so
unfortunate and so sad. he probbly had no idea how much it would affect
your later life. i was not abused in any way and have GREAT supportive
loving parents. thank god for that. i was so attached to my mom as a
child that i suffered from severe separation anxiety. im over it now,
although i still am a mamas girl (daddys girl too :) )
art is a great way to escape. it is also very theraputic. i am thinking
of going into art therapy and being an art therapist. this way, kids
can release emotions through art when it is hard to talk about it.
thanks for your support and responses.
-
That would be wonderful to help kids!!!! And through art. You would
probably be good at that since you know how painful it is to be afraid. This
might all turn out for good, not only for you but for others as you go
forward! One of my favorite movies of all times is "What about Bob" In the
movie it was about this guy that was phobic taking baby steps and that's
what we all need to do to keep going foward : D
-
hahah yes! thats a great movie! ironically enough, it used to be my fav movie when i was young:)
-
bexcelica, do you live at the east coast? I'm trying to figure out what time it
is where you are...???? or that the times are wrong on the site? I live on the
west coast and it's 2:30 pm here or 14:30 anyway....small talk la la la :D
